Depot Driver

Hi all,

Can anyone with the relevant experience/knowledge advise on the following;

Are the tests for roles like depot driver, train man, train manoeuvre's exactly the same as the trainee driver tests ?

ie the same 7 tests & then interview or do they do less tests ?

Short answer no..... The three jobs you have listed are completely different to each other (I have never heard of the third one as a job title). I am going to be brutally honest here, if you are considered good enough to make it through the hr sift and make it to the testing stage you will be given practice material around a week before the tests. If you are suitable for the job you will pass them if you are not you will not. As a foot note depot driver will involve similar tests to mainline. Groundstaff/train(wo)man/shunter/rail op jobs DO NOT! I feel it would be inappropriate to actually tell people what the tests are for the reasons stated above but I genuinely wish you luck buddy!

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the information. So if I've got this right for a Train wo ( man ) role you would not anticipate the applicant being put through the same tests as for a trainee driver ?

That wants pasting as the header to the whole careers section, as it hold true for any form of railway psychometric testing.
Would save on a whole lot of pointless, repetitive agonising over the testing process.

I disagree entirely with the above. Of course practising for something will surely improve your performance mother nature made us that way. It is true that someone TOTALLY unsuitable will probably not pass whatever they do but for the rest of us then it's obvious to me that practising will improve your scores. So my advice is research and practise as much as you can, good luck.

That's what I thought about practicing beforehand and the reason I enquired as to if anyone knew the level of tests if any that a trainman role would require, specifically with DRS
