Hi,

I passed the recruitment process with EMT and got the all clear with the medical yesterday. Today I have received an email from HR saying that I can now hand in my notice at my current workplace as I have a start date of 26th March. EMT HR have not actually requested any references yet. Is this normal practice? There shouldn't be any issues with the references but I would've thought that they would have done them before now!

Do you mean they haven't asked you for any details or they haven't requested The reference off those who you gave? I remember when I first joined my TOC I was in the job about a month when they actually asked my referees.

Either way I wouldn't worry to much. Congrats on the new job and good luck!

Yes this is not unusual in the rail industry for you to start a job and then your references are then asked for so don’t panic as long you made sure your referees are going to give good references lol
Well done getting the job

They have the details but not sent them out yet. I know that references don't really tell you much these days, sick leave and disciplineries etc and I'm really not concerned about them. I've got this far and I have a start date, contract etc but it's a box that needs ticking and I'd just like everything done!

I read an article a few monqths ago saying that many companies don't bother taking up references these days, though whether or not that's true of the rail industry in general I couldn't say.

My TOC never bothered requesting my references, I checked with HR after I joined the company.

Have you had your pre-employment meeting with hr at prospect place?

I am on the current depot driver course and they didn’t check mine until after the job offer/pre employment meeting (which I thought was a little odd) but that’s the way it’s done so don’t worry about it
