About Locos, You can depart on a 67 wide and you'll really really struggle to overload it. So yes, you can wide a loco from start and it won't overload.

Can you do it on a 37? From what I know, do it on a 37 or similar and you will very quickly chew the track up, not to mention revving the engine unecessarily high and perhaps causing damage.

although not a loco driver im sure that this would cause an overload, and power would be cut, and you would have to shut off then power up again, down in fcc world we are taught to take power (319's) in step 1, with notch 2 power, once you feel the unit take power, off with the brake and notch 3 or 4 depending where you are.

All our rolling stock is fast approaching 30 years old, the only exception being the Cl317/6's which are a scant 24 years of age.

Ooop North we appear to be about a generation behind you Southies, so no WSP, ABS, CSR, GSM-R, etc etc etc

Errrm, The North has CSR, GSM-R, most trains have WSP but I haven't heard of any with ABS:roll:

Simply fabulous locomotives.

I suspect, considering their modernity, that if you put them in full power they're sophisticated enough to regulate it for optimum acceleration - though I have no proof this is the case!

I remember a driver i new opened up a class 56 light engine full power with brakes applied then released the loco brake and got up to speed rapid

Driving HSTs out of paddington you can only use up to notch 2 and when leaving the other stations no more than notch 4 till clear of stations

165/166 fleet notch 4 then straight to notch 5 smooth acceleration then 6,7

leaf fall coming you have to amend your power to stop Wsp cutting engines to idle if to agressive

I was on a train today and despite the tracks being wet the driver still kept slamming it into notch3/4 (EMU), there was slippage and you could hear a) the wheelspin and b) the WSP cutting in; made for excellent filming though!
