deltic prototype at hull?

did the deltic prototype ever make it to hull paragon? My dad swears blond it hauled a service he was on, but I thought I had read elsewhere it couldn't come to hull due to clearance issues?

Can anyone shed any light?

I presume you mean when it was new, not that it's been hired to Hull Trains. I suppose it would probably have been used on various diagrams as part of the evaluation process, so it would seem quite possible.

Given that it hasn't run since the 1960s, I think it's safe to say he isn't referring to its use by Hull Trains!

Was he getting confused with the Hawker Siddley Kestrel a 4000 hp single engine prototype that was based in Hull for a while?
It ended up going to Russia and never returning I think.

Nope, he does know his onions, or rather, trains. But I didn't realise that had been based at hull too?

Kestrel wasn't based at Hull but during its trials on freight, a regular move was for it to work an overnight Freightliner from Stratford to Hull and then stable on Dairycoates for the day. The loco would then head back to London with a freightliner in the evening. What a great shame 4000 was sold off and exported.

The photo I have seen of DP1 is of it working a Hull-Kings Cross service which I assume it had worked throughout.

On that note were deltics even that reliable? I know an ex-fitter from botanic gardens Hull who holds them in complete and utter contempt.
