I've just been watching a YouTube video and the chap is travelling from the SW of England up to Scotland.

He has a number of tickets for the journey, but luckily, the trip only involves 2 separate trains.

He had a short connection time and implied that, due to his split tickets, if he missed it, obviously due to a delay with the first train, he would be facing an expensive new ticket up north..

I realise now that on the RailUK ticket site, you can ask for a longer connection time, to hopefully prevent any problems, but if you just accept the default train times and miss it, could there be an additional cost to pay

Notwithstanding any clueless staff, if you buy a ticket or set of contiguous tickets against an itinerary (or indeed otherwise providing minimum connections are respected) you are protected against delays and can use the next relevant train (what this means depends on the tickets) if you miss a connection.

No as, long as you're travelling on a valid itinerary (and booking sites like RailUK trainsplit powered one only give valid itineraries) then you are not requried to buy any further tickets to complete your journey. If staff insisted that you do then any such tickets should be fully refunded following a robust complaint.

It's disappointing that, whoever this person is (perhaps a link to the video?), they are spreading such false information.

It's disapointing that, whoever this person is (perhaps a link to the video?), they are spreading such false information.
I have seen the video, it's an account called Trains Planes Everything, fronted by a rather dour Scotsman. He kept saying how worried he was about missing his connections and that he has split tickets and can't miss his advances, but it's certainly out of a genuine misunderstanding rather than an attempt to amp up the drama of his video. I keep meaning to correct him in the comments, in a good natured way rather than flaming him of course. Probably somebody already has done!

This is the second video Scott has done regarding split ticketing and the relentless corrections he got in his first one went unheeded.

You lose no explicit rights and very few implicit rights by splitting tickets and it’s bad to imply otherwise.

Trainsplit left a comment on his latest video which is good to see.

I was impressed by that! They thanked him for using Trainsplit but failed to correct him to encourage others, which I thought was a missed opportunity!

He apparently doesn't read comments, certainly doesn't reply to them and obviously doesn't take advice given either.

It's disappointing when these types put bad information out there but in the stakes of who provides the most misinformation I expect he is small fry in comparison to the absolute dross younger generations ingest constantly from tik-tok, instagram, etc.

I'm watching the first video that mentions split ticketing and he says at the start that the fare on all the websites was £88, TrainSplit could bring it to £44 and then he went to RailEurope who also sold it for £44 but "managed to get it on one ticket". Surely he has just chosen a different ticket on RailEurope as this shouldn't be possible right?
