Anyone know what the problem is at Watford that is causing delays and cancellations out of Euston? I'm currently on the 1830 VT service to Glasgow which is crawling through Bushey at walking pace.

According to NRE: Overhead wire problems between Watford Junction and London Euston is delaying trains by up to 45 minutes between these stations.

Also they were saying on twitter that there was a broken down train in that area as well which does not help lol.

You're not Paul Bigland (the renowned railway photter) are you? He's a jinx, if not then it seems that you're following in his footsteps!

No departures from Euston or southbound from Milton Keynes until 2100 to allow backlog of trains to be cleared. London Midland says there's a queue of sixteen northbound trains back from Hemel Hempstead

5a24 had an ADD alarm which is why a faulty train was reported initially, next train through section examined the OHL and reported it was out of alignment hence the chaos now.

Arrive exhausted, perhaps? Not a week goes by without major delays on the WCML, and this week it wasn't caused by a person under a train.

To be fair I've been shuttling up and down between Preston and London for four years and this is only the second time I have had any delays like this. The last time was for one under.

Just leaving Warrington BQ on the 1830 Euston- Glasgow currently 80 mins late

The train crew have been great. Free bottles of water and a choccy biscuit brought round.

Funnily enough, while the TM has issued a number of apologies he hasn't mentioned delay repay. I hope everyone on board is savvy enough to know about it.

The huge sit-downs outside Hemel seem to have ended now and trains are going to and from EUS (I was fortunate enough to catch one of the first ones out, which only took about 10min longer than usual. Full and standing, mind!) albeit with a vastly reduced timetable until end of service.

Not according to National Rail Enquiries live departure board with Tltrains to and from Tring. I can't see any listed currently. Last one was 21.54 and that was cancelled. I'm using the app.

Interestingly passengers travelling on Southern are advised to go to Victoria, take the underground and then travel on London Midland between Euston and Milton Keynes. Great idea, given no trains seem to be running between Euston and Tring. Yes they can use London Overground but it's not suggested. Besides it would surely be quicker to change at Clapham Junction and Wilsden Junction than going to Euston.

Also there is never any mention of services being wholly cancelled when disruptions occur. Yes I know about alterations and short notice cancellations but there is no harm in my opinion of mentioning which routes in particular in the disruption page. South West Trains delays usually have such information so why not London Midland and Southern.

DownloadMapof route afected

Virgin Trains between London Euston and Birmingham New Street / Stafford

London Midland between London Euston and Crewe / Birmingham New Street

*

TOC(s) affectedLondon Midland;*Southern;*Virgin Trains;*Description

Overhead wire problems between Watford Junction and London Euston has closed 2 of the 4 lines between these stations. These overhead wire problems are delaying trains by up to 60 minutes between these stations.

*

Alternative travel options

There is mutual ticket acceptance between London Midland and Virgin Trains on all reasonable routes.

Virgin Trains

Virgin Trains passengers may use East Coast services between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh / Leeds

London Midland

London Midland Passengers between London Euston and Birmingham may need to change trains at Northampton.

Southern

Southern tickets are being accepted on London Underground between London Victoria and London Euston, London Overground and London Midland.

Southern passengers travelling between Clapham Junction and Milton Keynes should travel via London Victoria on London Underground services and London Midland services between London Euston and Milton Keynes.

Southern passengers at Clapham Junction for Imperial Wharf, West Brompton, Kensington Olympia and Shepherds Bush should travel on London Overground services from Clapham Junction.

Neither Virgin nor London Midland agreed ticket acceptance with Chiltern, Southern or London Overground on this occasion.

Virgin arranged acceptance with East Coast, but how helpful is that if there's no acceptance with CrossCountry and/or ScotRail to make the second leg of the journey?

Poor.

The Trng trains are cancelled, but the trains that are running have been stopping additionally at Kings Langley, Apsley etc.

Surely if you have a ticket to anywhere on the WCML, its valid on the Overground to WFJ as most WCML trains call there anyway?

Not if you have and Advance or a TOC specific ticket such as "LDN MID ONLY"

Virgin services that call at Watford Junction northbound do so to pick up only, and many of theirs don't.

Poor.

Chiltern have had problems of their own today* and Southern services have been effectively of no use in the applicable area due to the delays caused by the overhead line issues.

*Breakdown at Marylebone and subsequent congestion; fire at The Hawthorns; earlier signalling issue at Hatton.

This has been about the fourth or fifth big incident since the end of August, when the line re-opened after (supposedly) being upgraded. It happened two weeks ago with a complete signalling failure at Bushey. Earlier on yesterday there were big delays after the signalling failed at Willesden too.

Whatever Network Rail have been doing on that stretch of line has clearly made things worse not better.

The problem is that NRE never state which trains will call additionally at Kings Langley and Apsley, and it's only once in a blue moon that the info goes on journeycheck.

During office hours the (usually very good) Twitter team can normally tell you. But outside then, or if you don't do Twitter, you're basically left standing around in Euston hoping for the best.

But not Harrow, which is where Southern services also stop, along with London Midland, so my point still stands with the best route to take, for some stations at least.

And yet again we've seen the signalling at Bushey sit down and have a paddy right in the middle of the evening peak. 30 minute delays here, there and everywhere.

What on earth have network rail done? Whatever it is, I'd prefer them to undo it. Weeks of inconvenient closures and we have a worse railway than before they bothered.

Seriously frustrated with how inept they are.

You wait until the ROCs take over, this will seem like a picnic.

Why will that make a difference? If a section of the panel (or workstation) sits down (on the ground at least) it doesn't matter if it's in a box next to it, or a box 200 miles away it's still the same. From what I gather it was nothing in the box that sat down
