Delayed Scotrail train with seemingly odd reason

An interesting reason for a delay on the Scotrail app tonight.

No electric trains within about 100 miles of Aberdeen.

There was an object caught in the overhead wires somewhere near Leeds tonight. It wasn't on the line my train was on, but it was caught up in the resulting congestion. I guess this is what's happened here, the initial delay was due to the object being caught and either the train or crew have become displaced

Wires down at Haymarket took platform 1 out of use for most of the evening.

RTT shows the 1934 which would link onto the Aberdeen to Inverness service leaving Waverley on time and Haymarket only a minute down and being pretty much on time until it got to Burntisland.

Not a massive thing overall. Just a strange reason to see for a train leaving Aberdeen.

It could be crew arriving late given there has been OLR disruption impacting trains heading north.

Besides, it wasnt the train from Edinburgh that caused the delay to that train anyway. It was the one from Queen St.

On a similar theme, a friend of mine had her train from Windermere cancelled last week, due to an electric 331 breaking down at Salford. (despite Windermere branch being unelectrified)

Apparently the Conductor rostered to work the Windermere trains was stuck on the broken train and no other Conductors were available to cover at short notice.

I'm sure there are scenarios like this on a regular basis. e.g. A Cross Country train being delayed by 10 minutes at Aberdeen in the morning could eventually delay services in Devon/Cornwall etc. several hours later in its journey.

Are there any dangers to people on the platforms if this occurs in a station? Are the wires still electrically charged or is that broken once they come down?

Yes, there was a good appraisal of the hazards in a RAIB report on a wire failure at St Pancras.
