Delayed journey

At present an at Westbury station having been to Exeter & Okehampton on advance tickets.

I should have been on train from Exeter to Westbury at 1545 but this was cancelled and next train at 1615, was also running late.

Consequently missed the 1702 and 1802 from Westbury to Cosham.

Now waiting for the 1902 to Portsmouth but this does not stop at Cosham, where my car is parked.

Easiest thing is to get out at Fareham but should l get another ticket from Fareham to Cosham. Ticket that l have is FGW advance and FGW trains only.

Please note l don’t do twitter or Facebook.

Any advice?

Can you get a staff at Westbury to endorse your ticket for use on other trains to Cosham?

There are no further GWR trains that stop at Cosham (having come from Fareham) at any time today that you can now catch. Any other TOC is obliged to assist you in getting to your destination, where it can do so. As there are plenty of Southern trains (and maybe SWR ones) that go from Fareham to Cosham you are entitled to board the next one of these and travel to Cosham. You do not need to buy any other ticket. You are unlikely to encounter a guard or RPI on such a short journey (9 minutes) but, if you do, you may need to explain this to them.

Agreed; the original tickets remain valid.

You can also claim Delay Repay from GWR, for the whole journey.

I did speak to the Train Manager on the FGW train, who advised just to get on the following Southern Service at Fareham and there would be no problem.

And there wasn’t, as l did not encounter a ticket check on the short journey.

My scheduled arrival back at Cosham was at 1835.

Actual arrival time was 2048.

That sets my record for longest delay on a train journey.

Good news. I'd have thought the GWR train manager on the 19.02 could have requested a special stop order at Cosham for the OP. It may not have been possible, but would have been worth trying, given no more GWRs that night and GWR had caused the missed connections. But good to see the Southern train went OK.

Worth noting that you can claim delay repay on the entire combination of tickets held.

So delay repay claim put in and they have said that delay no more than 30 minutes and not in excess of 2 hours . Submitted the appeal, which was rejected in a matter of hours .

Have now sent email asking them to review. Will see what happens.

Did the 1615 call additionally at Westbury then? Wonder where GWR are calculating the delay repay incorrectly.

Castle Cary and Westbury, plus some other stops were added to the service but do not show up on RTT.

It was 1A90 1515 Plymouth to Paddington.Left Plymouth 28 minutes late and arrived Paddington 77 minutes late because of all the additional stops.
