Every day my train from Sandal & Agbrigg (West Yorks) to Leeds is delayed by at least 4 minutes.

It hasn't been on time for 3 weeks.

Anyone know why? It's always a pacer service from sheffield.

There may be a discrepancy between the passenger timetable (PTT) and the working timetable (WTT)?

Or,

Your train might just be late?

If you post details of your specific service certain members can check for you.

I often get the 0919 Wolverhampton - Walsall stopper and realised only recently that in the WTT it is due to depart at 0920. In reality it is often up to 6 minutes later, as it has to squeeze in between faster trains, the one immediately before it being the 0916 from Manchester to somewhere down south that's often late by the time it reaches Wolverhampton, it also has the 0919 Liverpool service cross in front of it before it can depart, and if the Manchester is late enough, it can be held for the next northbound train to come through also.

Surely that should never be the case when about arrivals (I can accept it might be useful concerning departures)? Even at a relatively small intermediate station like Sandal there could be passengers who rely on the timetabled arrival time. OK, I realise 4 minutes is perhaps within reasonable tolerance, but the design principle seems wrong

Picking a train at random; today's 09:04 from Sandal & Agbrigg to Leeds (originating at Sheffield). According to the WTT, the departure time is actually 09:05, so it 'appears' to be 1 minute late already. By the time it reached Holbeck Junction, it was actually 3 minutes early, but on arrival into Leeds station it was 2 minutes late.

The 7.34 TPE Stalybridge - Manchester Airport always shows as 2 minutes late on NRE. It is normally correct as it follows the very busy 7.30 Northern stopper to Wigan.

Remember at this time of year leaf fall/poor track conditions can often delay trains. If you look at the progress through the journey you can often see a delay building, or a train consistenly losing time in certain places during this weather.

My usual train to work, the 0718 from Margate, hasn't been on time once this week. On Tuesday, they it was so late they held the 0740 (Charing Cross via Dover service) at Ramsgate for us until we'd arrived and ran across the platform to get on.

Does that include today?

Looking at the arrivals at Leeds I cannot find a train that was 4 or more minutes late until the 1513 or 1709 arrivals, both which were from Doncaster. The first late arrival into Leeds ex-Sheffield was the 1731 arrival.

I'm not sure how delayed it is into Leeds, i'm not sure what the correct arrival time is.

It's just a pattern everyday of being delayed at Sandal & Agbrigg. It's the Northern stopper from sheffield to leeds via rotherham, moorthorpe etc.

Due in at Sandal & Agbrigg at 07.18. Not arrived before 22 for 3 weeks now.

Looking at the staff version of Live Departures, it seems to be losing 2 minutes at Thurnscoe. Relevant headcode is 2N12, 06:28 ex-Sheffield for those with TRUST access.

Booked for a 1 minute dwell at Thurnscoe, looks to be taking 2 or more minutes for whatever reason.

I usually get delayed by the 0918 from Manchester crossing in front at Norton Bridge (should be 7 mins ahead, but hey ho ...)

Another train is the 1733 CrossCountry from BHM to RDG it's never on time, at best around 5 minutes late, however on average its usually 10 minutes late.

The worst is, sometimes it can arrive on time just outside reading, and then hang around for at least 5 minutes before making it onto the platform, late.

If trains are regularly late, wouldn't it make sense to increase the time allowed to arrive? I mean the evening trains during peak from Harrow and Weladstone to London Euston are usually at least 2 minutes late. This is all year round, not just during leaf fall.

Yet the hourly Southern trains to East Croydon and usually on time, again all year round including during leaf fall. Not sure what is making London Midland late. They normally start on time and then lose time from Kings Langley onwards. On the days the trains are on time they look just as busy as the days on which they are late. However I don't know the passenger flows north of Harrow.

It was probably far later than that leaving Oxford, but slack timing between Oxford & Didcot (more so if it achieves a path on the fasts) would result in it being "only" 5-10 mins late.
