My first train is due to arrive at 52 min past the hour; my second train is due to leave at 00 (top of the hour) and is on the next platform. (10 secs to cross it max)

But the first train is 9 mins late therefore I miss the 2nd train, and the next one is not due to leave for another 59 mins, and I will be 59 min late at my destination can I claim back the some of the ticket.

Also what is 'planned, advertised timetable'?

It depends. To advise you, we need to know origin, destination and type of ticket held and at which intermediate station the connection was missed.

Agreed.

The short answer is: probably, which of course isn't as helpful as we'd like to be ;)

The long answer is: yes, if it 10 minutes a valid connection, which we can check if details are provided.

Details of minimum connection times are available at http://www.brtimes.com/#home so, for example, 10 minutes would be a valid connection at York (8 minutes) but would not be a valid connection at Birmingham New Street (12 minutes).

As for the "planned, advertised timetable", for performance purposes that's the timetable that appears in rail industry systems as of 22:00 the day before travel.

So if, for example, a TOC realised at some point on Saturday that they didn't have enough Traincrew to run a full Sunday service, as long as they entered the planned cancellations by 22:00, that would be the timetable performance would be measured against.

Granted that's no comfort to someone who checked their train times during the week, then turns up at a station on Sunday only to discover the train they'd planned to catch had been cancelled (or, increasingly, isn't mentioned on the Departure boards at all) and they've got a two hour wait for the next one...
