Here's a nice complicated Delay Repay claim!

I am currently on a North West 7 day Rover, priced at £42.50.

Last night I was on 1M17 from Carlisle which arrived into Warrington Bank Quay 22 late. By the time I had got to Warrington Central, I had a 40 minute wait for the next train home to Birchwood, the 20:45 TPE Newcastle service. This meant I arrived home 62 minutes late.

How much Compensation will I get from Virgin's Delay Repay scheme and how is it worked out for rovers?

Would there be a chance they could say I could have bashed a different line? The ticket was issued at Birchwood and I was returning home so I will certainly take issue with it if they do!

The logical thing to do would be to base your compensation on the price of the cheapest walk-up ticket. Not that much is logical in railway-land.

You will probably get a seemingly random value of vouchers. The amount will be over generous so you do not bother them with a follow up letter. The actual amount of vouchers you should have got will have been put in the too difficult filing tray.

I'd expect about £20ish in RTVS at least, given your 62 minute delay. Anything less than £10 would be a joke.

The equivalent daily cost is only about £8, so why would you even expect £20?

Rovers tend to be treated as season tickets, so £4 is about the right level of compensation I would expect. Anything more is a bonus.

Thinking along the lines of goodwill rather than what would be the 'official' repay.

I'm currently on a TPE service back from Leeds. Boarded the 19:09 Liverpool service to go back to Birchwood. Got detrained at Stalybridge 69 Late. Currently at Manchester Piccadilly, 67 late and on a different unit. What should I expect from TPE?

The replies above suggest that no-one can say with any certainty what you will receive in the way of compensation (although I think bb21 has the right idea).

Just put the claims in at the end of your trip and wait to see what you get.

Just send in a picture/scan of the ticket online via their online claim and put you were delayed over an hour.

I am confident you should get a bit back, if not the price of a single at least.

I got delayed by TPE last year using a Freedom of the North West. It took 6 months of emails and passenger focus before they finally admitted that they had to pay compensation on rovers.

TPE does not do delya repay, so it would depend on the cause of the delay. Saturday was fairly chaotic due to a signal failure at York, so this is deemed to be the responsibility of the industry and hence compensation is payable as per the passenger's charter. For delays of 1 hour or more it is compensation to the value of 100% of the single journey ticket, including connections where applicable. How you work out the cost of the single journey ticket on a Rover is of course open to debate!

I got £8 out of south west trains after being delayed by almost two hours whilst on a rover. So I'd expect about that!

They do. I claimed for a delayed journey delayed whilst on a FOSW rover and they gave me back a voucher based on a single of the journey I made. As I understand, TOC's have different ways of compensating and it could very well down to who is at the desk at customer relations.

Got £42.50 back from Virgin! TPE sent £10 and Virgin also sent £2.50 for a 39 minute delay. Presumably the £42.50 was a mistake??

I decided long ago that they would have to pay me before I would travel on most of the UK's rail services. It's good to see that someone has found a way of making that happen.

Yes. £55 in RTVs for a £42.50 ticket.

I also used a £10 RTV to buy it!
