Ok, so I have had a DR claim passed between 2 TOCs several times over the last 2 weeks.

Can some one clarify who is responsible:

- journey involved 4 changes and 5 trains/TOCs

- leg 1 from station A to station B operated by TOC-x was cancelled

- a later service (only a few mins later) allowed me to get to Station B. Where I was able to get Leg 2 operated by TOC-y

- leg 2 (TOC-y) was delayed and meant I missed my connection at Station C. All of my onward connections were then missed resulting in me arriving at my final destination 90 mins late.

My first DR claim went to to TOC-x who rejected it and passed to TOC-y (reason: although their train was cancelled, a later train allowed me to catch my connection)

TOC-y rejected it as the “first delayed train was not them” and they passed back to TOC-x. They have rejected my “copy and paste” from the first TOC

Can someone clarify?

Undoubtedly TOC-y, assuming that first connection (on the later train) was still below minimum connection time. Appeal it.

From what you’ve said it’s probably TOC-x although the whole thing will be a lot easier to understand if you just tell us the companies, stations and trains involved.

Yep, algebraic examples don't exactly help ;)

The OP's explanation also doesn't tell us whether they managed to catch their originally planned service for leg 2.

It would be easiest if the OP could simply tell us:
  • What their original planned itinerary was (with real timings, stations and TOCs)
  • What trains they ended up taking
