Delay repay when using two tickets?

Hello,

I am wanting to make a journey between Manchester Piccadilly and Parson Street (changing at Bristol TM) using two tickets, an off-peak return between Manchester and Bristol and an anytime single between Bristol TM and Parson Street. If the XC was to be delayed and I missed my connection at Bristol TM, would I be eligible to claim for repay delay?

As stated in other threads, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to claim Delay Repay for the delay to your entire journey, and most TOCs will pay out without quibble.

Thank you Yorkie. The reason for wanting to do this is that booking a return between Manchester and Parson Street creates issues trying to reserve seats for the journey back (Bristol to Manchester) because of the limited services out of Parson Street. So I'd rather pay a little extra for the additional ticket and keep it simple.

It should be possible to get the itinerary you want on a decent website like Trainsplit, as you can specify extended interchange times.

The East Coast site allows this, in 'text only' mode, but it is cumbersome to use and not customisable.

Not sure on the connection time at Bristol TM. The journey I'm wanting to make shows on the booking site I use, so that's fine. I've only a 15 minute wait for the connection, so I'm happy with that. However on the return journey I am wanting to travel from Bristol TM on the 12:00 XC departure on a Sunday, the first train at Parson Street on a Sunday is ~4PM so the booking system doesn't provide any option for me to book a reservation for that service.

I'm not looking to split other than an off-peak between MAN and BRI and a single between BRI and PSN. As long as delay repay can be claimed on my journey MAN to PSN should XC find any delays en-route (eh!) I'll be fine.

Ah, I see.

In that case there is no need to pay extra for a BRI -PSN single.

Either get a return to PSN (leave the outward 'open' and and ask telesales or a station to reserve you a seat on the return leg) or get a return to BRI online, and obtain an over-distance excess (at zero cost).

The former will be much easier to obtain as some staff and/or systems won't issue zero fare excesses.

There aren't any direct buses from Bristol TM to the Bedminster/Parson St area. The A1 Airport Flyer does go through the area, but I don't believe it offers intermediate fares so you'd be looking at £7 for a single.

My knowledge was only gleaned from Traveline. ;)

Its possible that website has out of date info, or it's underestimating the walk involved at the Parson St end.

There aren't any buses directly from the station. The nearest is from Redcliffe Hill, which is about 10-15 minute walk away.

Anyway, I made this journey yesterday without any issues. It's rare but my XC ran RT all the way from Piccadilly to Bristol TM, it even departed New Street RT! ;)
