When TPE compensated your friend for the declass first class, was that compensation based on the cost of BOTH upgrades, or just the cost of the Ashton - Glasgow upgrade?
TPE compensated based on Bolton - Glasgow being declassified, as it was only that leg that was declassified and not the other leg.

The one fly in the ointment is that if as you say the upgrade was for Glasgow - Ashton, and TPE are only providing DR for Glasgow - Bolton, how much of the upgrade cost should be included in the DR calculation?
The upgrade only applies to Bolton as Northern doesn't have 1st :D

I think pushing back purely to get this clarified is worthwhile but I'm not sure it's an amount worth fighting for.

Yes, but was the amount of compensation paid based on the total cost of both upgrades that your friend paid for, or just the cost of the Bolton - Glasgow upgrade?

The important point being that if the amount of compensation they paid was based on the total cost of both upgrades, your friend would not then be entitled to have the cost of the upgrade factored into the DR calculation.

I must admit I was surprised when you posted that the upgrade was for Glasgow to Ashton. I hope that the information you have been giving the ombudsman has been more precise than what you have been posting on here, as providing the ombudsman with incorrect or misleading information would not help your case.

I think pushing back purely to get this clarified is worthwhile but I'm not sure it's an amount worth fighting for.
Only you and your friend can decide if it is worthwhile, depending on how much it is likely to be worth, and the effort involved. And of course the risk of the ombudsman ruling against you.
