I’ve applied for delay repay for my sons who were travelling on a late running Avanti and GWR service and all of the payments have been sent via cheque rather than card (as I requested). Is there any way for them to send the payment via card/bacs as I requested as i won’t be able to access the cheques or pay them in (sent to rental address).
Thanks

I think they pay by cheque or send vouchers (electronic or hard copy) for future travel.

Not sure why you would ask for them to be sent to an address where you can’t get the post

I asked for it to go back to my card- had no problems before with an old card and put my billing address as I wasn’t expecting any post from the claim.

It might be worth contacting Avanti with a complaint that they did not follow your request of how to pay the delay repay, but they could come back and point out that it's unusual for your credit card to be registered at an address that you don't live at or have access to, and so for you to have given that address.

If you haven't already done so, see if there is any way to get post sent to the property passed on to you. It may be easier than a complaint!

This could leave the OP vulnerable to fraud/identity theft if any correspondence about the credit card goes to that address.

What was the original payment method for the tickets?

I've also had this in the past with GWR. I submitted a DR claim and asked to be reimbursed to my Visa Debit, but got an email after my claim was approved saying that they were unable to credit my card with the amount, so would send a cheque in the post instead to the address I gave on my claim.

Seems weird they instantly choose cheque, though I suppose it's generally the option that will always result in the compensation arriving at some point, provided the address provided is correct.

Wonder how many never get cashed due to the hassle
Not sure how much hassle it actually is to be honest - OK annoying if they have closed your bank branch locally - but my bank allows you to pay in cheques via an app on your phone (take photo of cheque), this is Lloyds.

The OP has 6 months to get the cheque and pay it in as well.

Getting Avanti to cancel it and re-issue it might be real aggro. I bet this has happened because something about the bank card it was paid with no longer matches and thus the refund failed. Maybe due tot he OP having moved house.

It does not seem that long ago that you had to handle lots of cheques in your personal life, but obv much rarer now. I recall writing them at supermarket check outs:o. Then they got little dot matrix printers at the check out where you gave them the cheque and they printed the sum on it for you, then they handed it back for you to check and sign.

Don't know if it affects Avanti and GWR but GTR have temporarily stopped offering Delay Repay payments via credit or debit card. I don't know why but suspect this could be because of some technical or potential fraud issue.

Why did you give them an address on the form that isn’t your address?
