Hi, travelled from Southend to London Liverpool Street yesterday at 1725 on 1K93. Train got held up near Shenfield due to a broken down train further ahead. Resultant delay of 32mins late into Liverpool Street at 1855.

As a result, missed my train from London Euston to Carlisle at 1910 (Last standard train) by approx 5mins despite best rush across London.

Avanti staff transferred me onto the Sleeper, due to leave at 2350, for no extra cost. However, Sleeper didn’t leave until 0249 due to an incident in the Harrow area, as a result the expected 0507 arrival became 0808, a delay of some 181mins.

Where do I stand with regards any Delay Repay? The Anglia ticket and Avanti tickets were bought as seperates. Have also attached the journey planner showing my planned journey was a valid connection.

Appreciate Avanti were good to move onto Sleeper in amongst this, and the delay to it nothing they could do about.

Thanks in advance!

One wonders why Avanti didn't send you on the 2030 to Preston for onward travel.

Your claim is solely with Greater Anglia for 100% of the ticket cost.

You were delayed by 557 minutes. I think you have good reason to ask Greater Anglia to provide some compensation additional to the 100% compensation of the ticket value that you are entitled to.

It's a good example of how a relatively short delay can lead to a very long one. Under the system we have, the claim is all with the first company that caused any delay to the journey, Greater Anglia.

Would’ve been stranded in Preston for the Night!
The railway will have to arrange alternative travel (most likely taxi or coach) to your ticketed destination. Generally, appraoch to the staff at departure or arrival station will get that sorted.

I don’t think so because GA weren’t really responsible for the very extended delay. 100% from GA, complain elsewhere if you think you deserve more.

That’s why Avanti didn’t send them on that train and put them on the sleeper instead!

If it was a walk up ticket it would be valid on the Sleeper anyway so assuming the OP got a seat it won't have cost them anything other than the piece of card and few electrons required to issue a reservation.
