Hi,
I'm hoping someone can guide me to the correct path for getting money back on an unused portion of a return ticket.
We were traveling into London today on the line from Twyford to Tottenham Court Road. We woke up to the news about the derailed freight train, but the Elizebeth line was meant to be running. We bought off-peak return tickets with various railcard discounts applied and intended to catch the 10:34 Elizabeth line train to Tottenham Court Road.
After we arrived at Twyford station, the 10:34 went from on-time to delayed. At around 10:47, the station staff announced the 10:34 train was leaving Reading and would arrive in five minutes. However the train proceeded straight through without stopping. We were forced to find an alternative route into London that didn't involve the trains as our plans meant the next scheduled train would be too late (nor did we want to take the chance that it wouldn't actually arrive).
On coming home, we used contactless to go from Tottenham Court Road to Paddington on the Elizebeth Line. We then changed at Paddington to a Great Western Line train using the return tickets we had purchased in the morning.
We purchased the tickets from the RailUK ticket site.
So, do we ask for a refund for the unused outward journey, or do we use the delay repay claim system. And, if the latter, who do we claim with? I'd guess TFl?
Thanks for any guidance.
