My 19:20 train from Waterloo to Exeter was cancelled this evening and I discovered it in time to catch the earlier 18:23 and was allowed to do so despite holding an advance single for the 19:20.
Now the 18:23 is itself delayed by 58 minutes. Can I claim delay repay or will the argument be that I arrived more or less on time?

As you travelled on the 1823 you are entitled to expect it to arrive on time and should be claiming for the delay. SWR may disagree and decline your claim but I do not accept that they are able to double the inconvenience to you.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think there is any consensus on this, and other TOCs have refused Delay Repay under similar circumstances, so you were lucky.
