When I travel I always have paper tickets, but I am assisting someone using a ticket purchased through the OMIO app... one I have heard of, but never used...

Do I submit the claim to Avanti West Coast in the normal manner, i.e. screenshots of the ticket open in the app? Will 'automatic delay repay' apply in this case? What refund methods are available?

Thanks

If you made the journey, a refund is not applicable; instead you need to make a Delay Repay claim with Avanti.

I'd imagine screenshots would do, but I've never used any apps because of numerous issues which I've heard about with m-tickets.

I personally prefer to use e-tickets; the other week I was delayed on an XC journey for which I had three tickets all on one PDF and the Delay Repay claim was the easiest claim I've ever made. I simply uploaded the PDF document to the Delay Repay form. No faffing with photographs or screenshots.

The train was cancelled, and they will make the journey several hours later in the day instead. The ticket was activated in the app before they realised the train was cancelled. It is an 'Advance' Avanti train specific ticket.

The basic rule is that for delay repay you claim from the train company that delayed you, whereas for a refund (e.g. if you decide not to travel) you claim from whoever sold you the ticket.

As far as I am aware, automatic delay repay normally only applies where you buy your ticket direct from the TOC you are travelling with. As Yorkie says, you will need to submit a claim to Avanti, with a screenshot or suchlike of the ticket. I would recommend that you get the ticket holder to take the screenshot of the ticket as soon as possible, before the ticket automatically times out, as with some apps its details may not be so readily accessible after that happens.

Already done, I collected the necessary information from them before their train was scheduled to arrive. Even though they have permission to travel later, I suggested they take screenshots anyway to show if their ticket is inspected on the train later today, in case it is not visible in the app as the ticket may have expired as the train has already passed through the system.

I will do the claim for them on their behalf and then forward it on, as they are from the Far East, not familiar with the process and may have an incompatible banking system...

Screenshots of the tickets normally don't suffice. Even if it has a QR code on, the TOC either can't or won't scan it, and the price of the ticket isn't normally shown on e/m-tickets. Send in the booking confirmation instead, itll save you a lot of hassle/undue stress
