On 26 June, I attempted to travel from Horsforth (nr Leeds) to Windermere to do a walk in the Lake District. A day return with a Senior Card with the flexibility I wanted is over £40, so after considering my options I booked Advances from Horsforth to Leeds and Leeds to Preston, an off peak day return from Preston to Oxenholme and a Northern Newspaper offer Day ranger to cover the Windermere legs and the return trip from Preston or Lancaster to Horsforth. (The Day ranger is only valid from 0845 so was not usable on the outward to Preston).
All went well until on arrival at Preston we were told there had been a fatality at Oxenholme and it was up to me what to do. I decided to return home. On trying to reclaim for my tickets, it appears that Northern are only willing to refund the Preston-Oxenholme return leg.
Question 1-- is that correct on Northern's part?
Question 2--- if not, any advice on what to do? I have had an exchange of about eight emails with their on line team and sent my tickets up to their Edinburgh PO Box address but have got nowhere. We are talking about £17 here (plus a wasted Day ranger) so it is not trivial but on the other hand life is too short for an endless circular exchange.
