The company which caused the delay is responsible for delay repay based on the cost of the full journey, regardless of whether it is one through ticket or a number of split tickets. See attached.
That’s something I wasn’t aware of

So when claiming from (I assume) Greater Anglia, would you just put to total of the tickets in the “cost of tickets” field?

Does it matter if the tickets were bought in the same transaction. I ask because whilst probably irrelevant to the OP, I’ve bought some advance tickets weeks in advance, with a view of deciding on the day whether to train or drive the first leg

Yep.

In theory it doesn't matter.

In practice, some automated systems, and honestly some human claims handlers, might dismiss it. But by the letter of the contract (the National Rail Conditions of Travel), a journey made by split tickets isn't much different from a journey made by a through fare ticket. It's just that some operators may need reminding of that if they initially decline a Delay Repay claim or offer compensation below the entitled amount.

Overall the industry handles it a lot better than it did say 10 years ago, because split tickets have become so commonplace, with the likes of Trainline, and even ScotRail's booking engine offers split tickets now; it's no longer an especially niche thing.

Many train companies delay repay sites ask if you were using a combination of tickets, and then get you to upload the details separately. For the train companies that don't, I take one photo of all the tickets and upload that, add the prices together and quote the ticket number from the leg that was delayed.
