I don’t tend to bother claiming Delay Repay unless it’s for at least a tenner. I elect for RTVs as I do feel the money should stay within the industry.

Anything under that isn’t worth it imo unless the TOC really annoyed me, eg cancelling a late night train. That said, any small amounts normally get donated to charity if I claim.

Depends on the reason and in particular the TOCs attitude to passengers. I claimed last week when West Midlands Railway cancelled two peak hour trains in a row and then when the next train did come in to the platform out of service it was short formed. As they gave the impression of not caring less, I put in a claim.

Why? If the railway doesn't provide the advertised service, what right does it have to be paid for it?
I guess it might help stop vast swathes of it being closed down, which on occasion now post pandemic I do sometimes wonder if it will be....(esp considering it's death knell attitude towards itself!)

A tenner is a large sum of money which can get me 5 return tickets between Bournemouth - Branksome already! It's very rare to have a delay so severe that the Delay Repay will be more than a tenner unless in severe weather conditions, but in such case I normally refund the ticket and travel by road instead.

On my local line, the theoretical smallest delay repay amount on a railcard discounted adult ticket is 24p (£1.95 × 12.5%), but a 15-minute delay on a Bournemouth - Branksome train will already make me take a local bus, so the minimum amount of delay repay I'll bother to claim is 33p if a Bournemouth - Poole journey is delayed by 15 minutes on a return ticket.

I almost always claim since unlike a lot of people, I almost always have perfectly good experiences with delay repay and it therefore takes under a minute usually to claim, so it is almost always worth it - I once claimed 85p from GWR

If it's at the lower end of the scale, no.

On the other hand, for a major delay then yes, I do claim.

As it happens, I put a claim in on Sunday afternoon with GWR for a rather serious delay; it was approved in full for a 100% refund by mid morning on Monday... Less than 24 hours...

Yeah I think most operators are getting much speedier now. There were a lot of delays during the pandemic, but I think these have mostly eased, but I haven't that much experience of lots of operators to compare.

I raise (or should that be lower?!) you 41p from Northern...

:D
When Northern first introduced 15 min delay repay, I was a bit annoyed because they replaced the timetable poster at one of my frequently used stations with an advert about it. So for a while I made a point of claiming for every 15 to 30 minute delay.

That included a 15 minute delay on a very short journey (just along the line to the next big town) and I think the compensation came out as well under 40 pence... (that was in a week when I had quite a bit of time on my hands)

Last year made a claim, 2 months later still wasn’t paid, gave up as they weren’t prepared to pay full amount as delay had meant getting next hourly connecting train which was 2 minutes late, but their system had said it was on time.

No point in claiming if they reject valid claims

I usually claim whatever the amount just to make the point . I have just made three claims in three weeks for a few pounds each and gave them to charity. TFW and WMR Easy to do online and all went through within about 48 hrs although the were all single ticket journeys with one operator . One was for 29 mins but they paid 30+ mins

Scotrail keep cooking the books too. Train I was on today came to a stop at 13:20 but as you can see the app says it arrived at 13:15 which is blatantly not true. They refuse to answer questions as to why too which isn't a surprise so an ombudsman complaint is on the way. Happens all the time.

1315 or 1319, there’s still no Delay Repay claim, is there?
Don't think so unless there was a missed connection at Aberdeen for the 1324 to Montrose which anyway departed two minutes late today.

I have got good experience of Delay Repay by South Western Railway again. Its website has been updated such that it's now easier to enter split ticket details, by allowing us to specify details (single / return / others) and upload an image for each ticket used.

Last week I suffered a long delay after a late replacement bus and subsequent points failure using a split ticket combination of loophole tickets (issued as e-tickets with the exact route I took in the itinerary), which was rejected by the automatic system saying that my ticket details were incomplete. And after appealing it got approved swiftly with 120+ minutes delay paid out.

Yes. I've had 8 delays in March which I've claimed for.
If there's a lot of delays in a short period or something like missed connection by a few minutes then I claim delay repay and complain too.

Yep always claim.

Had a two delays on one ticket the other week (Chester to Bristol Anytime return) both 30+ minutes

Oddly TfW have paid out for the outward but not the return yet (still being checked two-weeks on)

Fiar do's, I put in a claim on London Midland this morning, and within half an hour had an email saying they have approved it and will be crediting my debit card. Nearly didn't bother for 15-30 minutes on a £7.95 ticket, but that £1.99 is better in my bank than theirs.

Quite an achievement claiming from a TOC that's defunct for over 4 years :E

Oops, I obviously meant LNWR. Never did get the hang of who's who after they split the original group up. My ticket was Hereford to Liverpool South Parkway via Birmingham New Street, so incorporated WMR and LNWR. It was the LNWR leg that was delayed. Is that correct now, or is it LNR not LNWR?

I write LNWR to contrast with LNER, but allegedly they prefer LNR.

LNWR and WMR are the same company so it doesn't especially matter which of them you feel like claiming from.

LNR is what goes on the front of the Desiros when they're not in service, so I suppose that's what's 'official'.

Their short URL is lnr.uk, whereas lnwr.uk is the short URL for another railway-related company (based on the legal, rather than trading name), see if you can guess which before you click on the link, it surprised me!

Gets even more confusing when Network Rail signalling now refers to Arriva Traincare's shed location as "Crewe LNR" - eg the '05+05 Crewe LNR to ....' etc

But as for the point mentioned above, the operator showing a different delayed arrival time from the (accurate) RTT time, it's imo clearly fraud - if customers can be prosecuted for it, why not the operator?

I've only claimed about 3 or 4 times, seems more trouble than it's worth just for the sake of a pittance.
