Hi all, my delay repay claim has been denied by WMR as "We have checked your journey and on this occasion, we could not find a delay of 15 minutes or more."
Intended itinerary (14/04):
Selly Oak 13:03 - Birmingham New Street 13:13 (WMR)
Birmingham New Street 13:34 - Crewe 14:30 (LNWR)
Crewe 14:46 - Stockport 15:26 (Northern stopper)
The 13:03 from Selly was 22 minutes late and I got the next train which was the on-time 13:23.
Actual itinerary:
Selly Oak 13:23 - New Street 13:33 (WMR)
New Street 14:04 - Crewe 15:00 (LNWR)
Crewe 15:46 - Stockport 16:26 (Northern stopper)
I held two advance singles:
Selly Oak - Crewe -- Specified trains & WMT connections
Crewe - Stockport -- Specified Northern trains only
I submitted my claim for 60+ minutes and it has been denied, I assume because there was the 15:10 Avanti service from Crewe arriving at Stockport 15:35, which is <15 minutes of delay.
Because my ticket was Northern only, I waited for the next Northern service from Crewe. I didn't speak to any staff while I was there.
It should also be noted that I wasn't under any particular time pressure and was happy to wait. If I had been, I probably would have spoken to staff and tried to get on the Avanti.
Regardless of whether I could/should have gotten on the Avanti, I didn't, and was therefore 60+ minutes late.
Seeing as I was actually delayed, surely it shouldn't matter whether or not I should have been.
I would like to appeal, do I have any chance of succeeding?
