Bit of advice required I've only ever made 1 delay claim which was pretty straight forward n got paid out. However last week i had a journey made up of 2 connections the second train(a virgin train) was delayed by 36 mins thus causing me to miss my connection making the delay to the entire journey a total of 1 hr 21 mins. When filling virgin delay repay form in do I claim for the 36 or 81 mins?

You claim for the whole delay to your journey i.e 81 minutes, assuming you have allowed sufficient time to change trains at the interchange stations.

Ok thanks so they'd consider a 12 minute change at Wolverhampton sufficient, right?

Yes, the minimum connection time at Wolverhampton is 7 minutes.

Thanks, so just to be sure although virgin trains were only responsible for 1(preston to wolves) of the 3 legs of the journey I still put departure station as Blackburn n destination Telford? Out of curiosity how do you find out minimum connection times for stations? I'm on n off trains a lot around the country so that'd be useful info to have, although I do tend to ignore any connection less than 10 mins anyway tbf

Officially the minimum connection time is 5 minutes unless a different figure is shown in the National Rail Passenger Timetable.

Unofficially go to http://www.brtimes.com/#home put in the station name and click Station Information and it'll tell you.

@yorkie the journey was as follows departed Blackburn at 20.20 to Preston. 21.17 train from Preston to Wolves didn't depart until 21.43 arriving in Wolverhampton at 23.08(36mins late) in turn making me miss the 22.44 connection to Telford meaning my next train wasn't until 00.03 and I didn't then get to Telford until 00.30

In that case you are entitled to 50% of your ticket if you had a return, or 100% if you had a single, in compensation.

Thanks it was a return, only other claim I made was more straightforward due to a broken down train sending me back where I came from n delaying the one leg by hours n forcing me to re-route etc whereas this one where a smaller delay creates missed connection n in turn large delay was one I thought I'd better second opinion on if that makes sense
