Delay repay and connecting trains

On 15 October I got the 1807 Avanti service from Euston for Derby via Tamworth. Connecting service is the 1922 XC to Newcastle. Avanti service was late in but plenty of time to get the 1926 to Nottingham. 1926 was cancelled, the 1922 was re-routed and never called at Tamworth. Eventually got to Derby around 2030.

Submitted delay repay to XC who have rejected it and passed it on to Avanti.

I think XC are wrong, but, I want to check before I appeal the decision.

Tickets held: advance from Euston to Tamworth, off-peak single from Tamworth to Derby.

From a quick look, Avanti are responsible as their lateness caused you to foul the minimum connection time of 5 minutes at Tamworth. What happened after that is immaterial.

Surely it is the actual arrival time at Derby compared with the original planned time at Derby which is the determinant. What was the difference?

There's no doubt I'm owed compensation - well over 30 minutes late - just working out who to claim off.
