I had a return ticket to Havant with a via Salisbury restriction.

On the return date I discovered that there were substantial delays to my journey back caused by a landslip.

I elected to purchase a second ticket so I could be routed via Reading to Exeter and then continue my journey using my return portion of the original ticket.

En route my train was substantially delayed meaning I missed my connections.

I arrived in Exeter around an hour late by changing my itinerary to get to Reading as soon as possible.

During my journey to Reading it was announced that tickets with a Salisbury restriction would be valid via Reading...... Sigh.

I subsequently arrived at my final destination 105 late.

What, if any, delay repay am I entitled to please?

You mention both Exeter and your "final destination", which from your profile location I would presume was in Cornwall? So I am taking it that you held a combination of split tickets? Could you provide us with the full details of all of the tickets you held, including prices, from, to, and route as shown on the ticket?

What was your planned itinerary back from Havant, and what trains did you actually end up taking? And on which date did this happen?

It is likely you are entitled to Delay Repay, but we will need the above details to calculate how much.

Hi Watershed

Ticket prices include Disabled Persons Railcard

Original ticket was £71.40 St Austell to Havant off peak return Route Via Salisbury.

Subsequent ticket £34.30 Portchester to Exeter St Davids Super off peak single using this route:-

25/8/24
0840 to Eastleigh
0911 to Winchester
0931 to Reading
1028 to Exeter

Following disruption I realised it would be quicker to remain on the delayed 0911 until Basingstoke rather than sit at Winchester for an hour

I caught the Torbay Express from Reading to Exeter around 1110?

From Exeter I caught the Penzance service which left around 1325 this was formed of a 10 coach IET which was a Paddington service cancelled at Exeter.

Based on that you should be able to obtain a refund for the Portchester to Exeter ticket as it was not required for your journey.

You would claim Delay Repay against the actual arrival time at St Austell compared to what was scheduled by the original route. It should be the original ticket you claim against.

The Portchester ticket was scanned at Fareham - the only time it was.

The St Austell ticket was scanned between Exeter and Plymouth only.

Both tickets bought from LNER to get my cashback
So the second ticket goes back to them for refund (with an explanation that you bought it not knowing that your first ticket would have been accepted).

But the Delay Repay goes to SW as their train caused the initial delay.

Quite useful to have the two dealt with by separate companies, but there is still a chance that your claims will be turned down first time - be persistent!
