We had an tiring day yesterday, travelling Aberdeen to Keighley.
When I booked I struggled to find reasonable fares and times from Aberdeen to Carlisle via the obvious Glasgow route and from Carlisle to Keighley at all, so I booked in one transaction 2x Advance on the 0947 LNER from Aberdeen to Newcastle and 2x Anytime single Newcastle to Carlisle.
Some time later advance fares for Carlisle to Keighley were released and I booked 2x Advance Carlisle to Keighley on the 1724 (obviously in a seperate transaction)
We spent 90 minutes at Berwick-upon-Tweed due to an earlier train hitting someone. We left Newcastle on the train an hour later than booked (would have been a very tight connection if it had been on time) and got the 1911 Carlisle to Skipton where the train terminated early, changing onto the next train to Keighley, arriving 2138 instead of the original arrival time of 1940, getting home 12 hours after boarding the first train.
I assume I claim delay repay from LNER.
Is the fact there's two separate transactions likely to be a problem? Aberdeen - Keighley was always going to be the journey and if the industry could make sure all TOCs released advance tickets at the same time, they would all have been bought together. If it's likely to be a massive hassle, I'll just claim to Carlisle which is 84% of the total cost.
