A family friend is travelling from Milford Haven to Paddington. The train from Milford Haven was late and missed the connection at Swansea.

She is a young adult, not used to travelling long distances on her own and very worried that she doesn’t do anything illegal.

Rather than use her ticket on the next London train, which of course it would have been valid for, she bought a new ticket Swansea to London.

She will claim delay repay for late arrival in London based on her original ticket but what’s the best way to try to claim back the new ticket, which she thought she needed as her booked train had gone?

Ask GWR to consider refunding it as a gesture of goodwill. You should do that separately to the delay repay claim.

It's important that in future she doesn't buy a new ticket as there is no entitlement to a refund. Rather she should use her ticket on the next train.

She didn't realise that, thought her ticket was only valid for one train, so bought a new one.
She will email customer services and explain.
Thanks.
