Defective River Bridge Ely (Cardiff)

[Due to a problem with a river bridge between Pontyclun and Cardiff Central all lines towards Cardiff are closed.
Impact
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 45 minutes or diverted. Pencoed, Llanharan and Pontyclun will not be served. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.
Customer Advice
Asset recovery manager reports that the line is to be closed for all traffic in the UP direction until the end of the day. Down line remains open at line speed.
Network Rail report that due to a significant defect with a rail over river bridge, trains are currently unable to operate on the east bound main line between Pontyclun and Cardiff.
Specialist bridge engineers are on site of the bridge between Peterston-Super-Ely and St Georges and have carried out an initial examination of the structure. Repairs will take until the morning of Wednesday 9 November.

All east bound Arriva Trains Wales services will divert over the Vale of Glamorgan route between Bridgend and Cardiff via Llantwit Major & Barry, adding up to 45 minutes to journey times
All east bound GWR HST-type (London) trains and all east bound freight trains will divert over the Vale of Glamorgan route between Bridgend and Cardiff via Llantwit Major & Barry, adding up to 45 minutes to journey times

EAST BOUND - West Wales/Swansea to Cardiff/Manchester/Holyhead; Maesteg/Bridgend to Cardiff Central/Newport/Cheltenham
WEST BOUND - trains are operating with a speed restriction through the affected area due to repair staff on the lines
Maesteg services will operate on a shuttle basis, between Bridgend bay platform #3 and Maesteg
Passengers to/from Maesteg at Pencoed, Llanharan & Pontyclun should board replacement buses and change at Bridgendshould use any train service departing west bound from Cardiff and change at Bridgend
ADVICE TO PASSENGERS: Services between Bridgend and Cardiff Central are being diverted via the Vale of Glamorgan line with subsequent delay.
Mutual ticket acceptance is in place with GWR.
Replacement road transport is being supplied by:
New AdventureTravel Cardiff Central - Bridgend all stops (shuttle both ways)
Gwyn Jones Travel Bridgend - Cardiff Central all stops (shuttle both ways)

I travelled westbound from Cardiff this afternoon, luckily on one of the first trains to be allowed back on the mainline. Unfortunately the information screens on the concourse all failed and there was a serious lack of information available to passengers. As I travel daily and had seen the issues on twitter it didn't bother me, but there was quite a long queue at the information desk of passengers who didn't know where to go and I imagine some probably missed their trains.

I got away with a total delay of about 15 minutes, all of which I spent sat on the train in the platform, but there were quite significant issues for anyone travelling eastbound with numerous cancellations even though the diversion was in operation.

It really wouldn't surprise me if there aren't a few eastbound GWR cancellations in the morning too. There often are when there's disruption running late into the day and trains to Landore depot are affected.

It is a Rail-Over-River Bridge... nothing to do with a broken rail.

I want to amend the location of the bridge which wasn't at Miskin. It was actually a bridge known as Goddards Bridge in the Ely area on the outskirts of Cardiff. Apologies if anybody was misled. I have also amended the title of the thread accordingly.
