Decent Coffee on trains

I can't stand instant coffee

same here!

And the big brands are way to expensive!

It's not necessarily the coffee. It's usually the fact that the cheapskates use UHT skimmed milk which is an insult to the word milk. I take a small flask of semi-skimmed from home of travelling. It really does make all the difference.
Nicests - thus far. Virgin west coast.
Grottiest - thus far. Virgin East coast - but that's a left-over from GNER days.

Just had an interesting (and nice) one on Ryanair. A cup containing grounds with a filter to drink through built into the lid.

Costa would be alright if they used semi-skimmed milk, but they won't. Ironically, their vending machines *only* use semi-skmmed.

We tried to go down the semi-skimmed route, but all the skinny b*tches had a fit as they could no longer have a skinny latte. Believe it or not, skimmed milk is actually worse for you than any other milk.

I'd agree that Caffe Nero is the best of the chains.

I think Costa is a little acidic, but will drink it where it's the best option.

Funny how you prefer Caffé Nero from the big chains. I must agree I love their coffee, but it's very bitter, very much more bitter than ours! They also do some lovely cakes, by far way better than ours in Costa (the same goes for Coffee #1 also).

If ever you're by a Costa and there is no other coffee shop nearby, ask for our Old Paradise Blend. It's got a smoother chocolate-like aroma to it and has a slightly sweeter aftertaste; it isn't as burnt. Do not, however, try a flat white, as the coffee in a flat white is only extracted for a short period of time to get the sweetness of the coffee and it will feel slightly more bitter.

Not sure why Costa can't do skimmed and semi-skimmed (as Nero does) ?. The Nero coffee certainly has a 'sharper' taste to it (not sure I'd say bitter) - much better in the mornings. If I have Costa it tends to be later in the day, but it's all a bit sickly for my palate.
