Hi, I searched beforehand for a thread relating to this but couldn't find one.
I am wondering if anyone has any info about changes coming in December 2017, particularly related to Arriva Northern and Transpennine routes as they have the potential to have major changes.

I seem to remember at the last franchise tendering Transpennine promised a doubling of services up the WCML, but with some services coming from Liverpool, and later services south from Scotland but I can't quite remember!

Yes i did but there's only one post that refers to services up the Wcml and only in passing. It's an interesting thread for TP South and North services though.

"Doubling services up the WCML" rather overstates the plans.
There will be 12 new 5-car trains (CAF class 397), rather than the present 10x4-car 350s..
Manchester-Scotland services will grow a bit, with some later departures and more at weekends.
Liverpool will get 3 through services to Glasgow, some of which will combine with Manchester services at Preston.
This should start in 2018. Timings won't change much.
But in 2019 Liverpool will also get an hourly direct service to Edinburgh via Leeds and Newcastle, run by 5-car Hitachi class 802 bi-modes until Manchester-York is electrified.
It will still be quicker to go via Preston and change.
