December 2013 Timetable

I've imported train schedules from 2011 and I'm trying to determine why December 2013-May 2014 had such a drop. I suspect that some data is missing but I can't rule out any events during the year.

Was there a drop in passenger numbers within the December 2013?

To me it looks like an error in the data for it to drop suddenly at the start of the quarter and to pick up rapidly at the end of the quarter.

We had a big freeze in January 2013 which caused many people not to travel to work for a few days, with some rail lines closing down especially the third rail ones in the South East and we were slowly recovering from a recession in 2013 so no reason for January 2014 to be significantly lower than January 2013.

May I ask what sort of data you are using for this?
If it's scheduled CIF data, I have an archive which includes 2013, and if it'd be of any use, you'd be welcome to use it.

I'm using CIF extracts from 2011 to 2018/19.

That would be great thanks! With my PhD research, more data the better! Likewise, if you want any of my CIF files, just let me know.

There were some quite bad storms during that time as the Dawlish Sea Wall collapsed.

But most train schedules still ran, just curtailed at Exeter / wherever. In fact, there would be more schedules to account for services being split in two either side.
