While Band Aid II, New Kids On The Block, Phil Collins and Linda Ronstadt were top of the pops some of us were out getting shots of what was then mundane. Slam door EMUs, the new Wessex Electrics, Cromptons and Hoovers!

Cracking photos Matt, thanks for sharing! You could almost 'feel' the cold in the pictures. Do you know what the story was with 50049? She appears to be hauling a dead unit, failure?

Interesting how a lot of places haven't changed --while the trains have, you could stand in the same places today for a few of them (and indeed I have!) :P

Might be a 4-TC on a Salisbury service. Not unknown for them to be 50-hauled, rather than 33/1. (But not pushed of course!)

Yes, a 50 plus a 4-TC was a fairly common sight after the 50s began working more of the Salisbury local services instead of just the Exeter trains.
