Anybody know what stock is used on the Sheffield - York services which go via the Dearne Valley?

Booked for a 156 (I think), but in reality, anything can turn up.

I've mostly had Pacers.

It's one of those strange workings that can be really lightly loaded or really busy.

It's particularly busy when XC are zig-zagging York-Leeds-Doncaster-Sheffield which happens on some weekends, and the direct trains are then quicker. It's a nice change to get a Pacer instead of a boring Vomiter - providing you are not wanting to use a laptop or read a book, in which case it may be better to let the Pacer go

It's not booked for a 156, Sheffield has no 156 diagrams. As Yorkie said, most of the time its formed of a pacer, although 153s and even 150s and 158s turn up on it sometimes.

Nearly always a 144 when I see it, although 142s make the odd appearance.

Just wondering as I'm doing a WY day rover and we are going on the Dearne Valley and wondered what the stock would be

I've only done the line once, not the best of scenery but a decent run nontheless.

i've seen 153 and 158 do it in recent months...

Because its an off peak diagram, it often gets what's "spare" at Sheffield on the day = one of those services that can be 158 or Pacer - part of life's rich tapestry.

It could be a major line north, but its a fairly slow bouncy one (with some awkward temporary speed restrictions last time I was on it), but makes a change - hope you have a good trip

My last journey was on a 2car class 144. A very nice journey, though Industrial West and South Yorkshire does not provide an awful lot of spectacular scenery......

We're only going between Moorthorpe and Pontefract Baghill then walking to Monkhill past the Castle.

So we shall try and have an enjoyable bouncy journey. Hopeful I can tick off a few more pacers.

How frequent is the freight on the line?

I'm not sure how much freight goes that way, but the top end around Church Fenton is usually quite busy and there are some lines near the power stations which always seem to have traffic on them.

How frequent is the freight on the line?

There's a fair bit but it's not frequent. Is it a weekday you're doing this? Some freight only runs on certain days too. If you can say when you are doing it then we can find out what's due.

When I did it a couple of months ago, it was a 153. But has been said, it could be what ever is spare at Sheffield.
