Deanside sidings are now out if use for freight traffic. For those who don't know the name, they branch off just at Cardonald station and run almost to the door of the huge Braehead shopping centre.

My idea would utilise the line which is still maintained and would not require a great deal of investment to see passenger traffic. Of course a station would have to be built at the Braehead end of the line and a path leading to the shopping centre. Another one platform station could be built alongside the new Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, helping provide a vital transport link here.

I propose a half hourly service using either DMUs or the class 230 D-Train calling at Cardonald, QEU Hospital and terminating at Braehead.

Thoughts?

The lack of paths out of Central and the flat junction to access the Deanside run-around make it totally unworkable.

Paths are available, they would have to be if there is any hope of a Glasgow Airport link. Trains for Braehead would crossover on to the Up Ayr to serve Cardonald and then into the sidings, hardly rocket science. Track realignment and a single dock end platform at Braehead would suffice.

I don’t see how you could have a station at QEUH when the line doesn’t go that way.

A station near Shieldhall road would suffice, only a short walk to the hospital.

A tram seems a better option as it could go right into the heart of the hospital campus. It could also serve Renfrew and the airport and interchange with the subway.
