The sign was definitely up yesterday. I saw it on the eastern end of the westbound platform.

Taking a station with a reputation for being unable to cope with large events and giving it a confusing name change specifically for a large event: what could possibly go wrong.
It will have been, they have redone every sign on the platforms...

Changing one single sign on a station is unlikely to cause many issues to lost passengers. There are plenty of examples of station name signs missing, damaged, worn out or graffitied across the country which will provide a greater level of confusion to passengers. This is in a completely different ballpark to the Burberry Street or the This Is Croydon examples.

Personally I think all this name changing is a bit silly, but changing a single sign for a few days is not going to cause a real world problem to anyone. Putting joke destination names on screens, headcodes/route numbers instead of full station names on train displays or replacing all the signage in a station are IMHO a far bigger problem and much more likely to cause confusion - despite the seeming love for some of those on these pages.

And on a different note, all the "well I've never even heard of her" complaints have a very real "old man shakes fist at cloud" feel to them :D Remember, it's ok to get old and not get pop culture references. It's not like anybody here complaining would be affected by this single sign being changed anyway, and I suspect you'll struggle to find someone outside the forum who was either.

On The One Show tonight whilst chatting with Jack Whitehall. I think it’s a really good publicity stunt.

Thank you for making this reference, I was trying to think of a way to do it for ages without confusing the octogenarians of the forum.

One does wonder if those people got angry at all the towns that renamed roads in solidarity of Ukraine too.

The irony is that the "who is she anyway" gang probably havent touched Radio 1 in over a decade because its all 'modern crap' to them so dont know that she isn't only a Grammy Winner, but the first female artist to have 4 singles in the top ten simultaneously.

Anyway ill jump off my soapbox now before they accuse me of not respecting my elders too.

One sign, out of the way, for just long enough to get some publicity photos, does not seem to be a genuine cause for confusion (as opposed to several for multiple days or even hours). It seems that no one has actually seen the changed sign, just reports of it or the publicity photos.
It appeared on the BBC North West Regional TV news.
A bit of harmless nonsense

In trying to find a Mr Blobby-related pun, it seems out that in 1994 British Rail renamed Bare Lane as Bare Crinkley Bottom.

Goes to show there really isn't anything new.

British Rail also jumped on the bandwagon by pledging advertising support and the creation of 'Bare Crinkley Bottom' station.

Ah, the usual faux outrage whenever something like this is done, while the majority of normal passengers complete their journeys on auto-pilot without even noticing anything is different.

Of course we had Stockport renamed Scottport just over a year ago to mark the start of shouty, swivel-eyed DJ Scott Mills and his Radio 2 Breakfast Show. If only Wogan was still with us...

Can confirm it is still there.

Perhaps offtopic but while the sign is 'harmless', I've always looked at this in combination with the mural painted by ex-homeless people being painted over for the Brits and that kinda impacts my opinion of the whole thing including this.

I've heard that some traffic lights green signals and the green man to cross have been changed to the Brit Awards symbol.
Seen a couple on FB, but just the crossing man. Not doubt it will be on the MEN website in the near future if it's true and not AI.

People who use/pass through the station on daily basis have no reason to be checking the signage. Infrequent or first time travellers would, unsurpisingly, expect to see the correct station name. Despite claims above that it is just one sign, as far as I can tell all the signs were changed.

I know that if I was travelling in an unfamiliar city, particuarly one in a country where a different alpahebet is used, a station being renamed for a local celebrity would not be helpful at all.

There's always "Bernard Manningtree" if some of the elders are feeling left out.

Have been through Deansgate this afternoon (as I write this actually) and most of you will be happy to know that Olivia Deansgate signage has been removed. The original Northern/GMPTE signage now back on full show as per.

Practically anyone with Lewis could be used for Lewes, Damien Lewis , Lewes Capaldi etc

I'm sure ed Sheeran could fit into Sheerness on sea or something

The BRITs were on Saturday, so I find it odd the sign would have been removed before then.
