Does anybody what work is going on at Deansgate station as to why the steps down to street level are out of use and when is this work due to be finished only it seems to have been going on for a while now

Yeah I was surprised when I was in Deansgate last week that you couldnt reach platforms, near the barricade is the lift though and thats still open so I used that instead.

So just because there is an alternative route to the platform they are not working on fixing whatever is wrong with the main route? It's been like that months - perhaps more than a year, and there doesn't seem to be any work going on.

It has been like it for 5 or 6 months now from memory. Basically there are structural issues with the floor, so it has been ripped up and work is going on to assess the problems and then correct it.

I work around the corner from Deansgate and I've noticed that there is normally some work going on during the day time (10-4pm or so) but nothing much happening around that. It doesn't look like there has been much material progress in that time from a layman's point of view, but obviously I'm no expert in such matters.

I must confess that when I spoke to Northern Rail earlier today, there was a long period "on hold" whilst he rang Deansgate station, then he did not want to have the conversation to progress deeper into the exact matter of the actual works and the time period still to elapse for completion of these.
