DB Seat Reservation Query

Afternoon All!

I'm after a bit of advice if possible.

I am traveling from Rotterdam Central to Hamburg HBF via Utrecht and Duisburg next week and DB have amended their timetable at short notice and informed me to select an alternative journey which I have done.

As the cross border journey from Utrecht is compulsory reservation will the seat on my original itinerary be valid as it didn't give me the option to select a seat when choosing the new itinerary

Selecting an alternative journey will only change the notifications from your old journey to the new one. Seat reservations are linked to the train number and usually don't change. If the train number is the same, your reservation wil still be valid, otherwise you can call DB or go to a DB ticket office to be rebooked free of charge. You can also book new reservations yourself and then get a refund of the old invalid ones from your DB account.

I do have the original reservation confirmation with the Wagon and Seat numbers. The train hasn't changed from Utrecht only that the new itinerary has me getting off in Oberhausen instead of Duisburg.

If your train to Hamburg is also the same one, then you don't need new reservations.

OK, so ICE 1020 is completely cancelled. You can call DB or go to a DB ticket office to be rebooked free of charge. You can also book new reservations yourself and after the journey get a refund for them.
Looking at the occupancy, I don't know if I'd bother with a new reservation. When you're approaching Oberhausen, do check the DB website or app what the next train in reality is.
