Apologies it this has been posted elseswhere.

It is being reported on national newswires that rail freight company DB Schenker is planning to cut more than 230 jobs amid a continued decline in demand for coal.

The company has started consulting unions over 234 job losses, saying its long-term growth and target markets were now in sectors such as automotive and construction.

The jobs are expected to go mainly across northern England.

One of the depots earmarked for closure had 60 drivers just five years ago, near double that 10-15 years ago plus all the fitters, ground staff, managers etc etc.

Easy to blame it on 'decline in coal traffic', far harder to look at the 'management' of the company since the heady days of EWS <(

There's far,far more I could say but best I say nothing else.

Best of luck to all the staff now looking for work elsewhere - the vast majority of them deserve far better.
