Did anybody apply for the latest Trainee Driver/Driver Operators jobs that closed on Friday (21st Feb)?
Have you heard anything yet? Even a confirmation of your application? I see on another thread people are being invited for assessments, is this for a previous post, or for the one advertised last week? Just curious as I didnt even get acknowledgement of my application....
The application form was a ballache to edit as it was a PDF and took alot of effort to do, just hoping my time wasnt wasted and they didnt even receive it!! :|
Also, does anybody know how many positions there are???
Cheers

I applied for Tyne Yard in the Driver Position.
The vacancy closed on the 21st February, so give it time it could take a while before they email candidates if they have been shortlisted for an assessment.

I dont know why i put 28th1 Have edited it! Did you not get any email back when you sent the form then?
They usually close early due to high applicants but i noticed this was on the list right to the last day.... Hopefully only me and you applied!!;)

Highly unlikely. DB Schenker recruitment have a history of leaving vacancies online way past their cut off date.

With DB Schenker i have never received any reply they received the application.

Just to give you an idea of 'waiting times' I applied for a trainee driver position last August with DBS. I only got an email from them late October to confirm they had received my application and that I had been placed 'On Hold'.

I also applied for the Tyne yard vacancy. Looks like we could be waiting a while going off the above comments. Good luck everyone :)

Hi guys

I applied in November and have been told I have gone through to the talent pool. Does anyone know if that means I have bypassed the assessments as I have a pass on the old system last year. I read somewhere that they are doing the new assessment process for everyone even if they have a pass on the original tests.

Hope someone can clarify this.

Many Thanks

Quite possibly.
I applied for DBS back in August to be put on hold end of October. I then applied for FGW passed all the assessments with them but did not pass the final hurdle, the DM interview.

I then remembered I was on hold with DBS, contacted them and I then got an email saying I had been placed in the talent pool.

I guess you mean Tyne YARD - no DBS depot at Tyne DOCK.

It's worth mentioning that Metro Centre to the outskirts of Carlisle (East End) might be doable in 60 minutes at 0200 on a wednesday morning but you won't do it through the day all the way to Kingmoor (which is where the depot is!).

The Fatigue Index is very important and all they'll do is use AA or RAC route planner from your postcode to depot.

I've just had a look on maps on my phone Carlisle yard is 54 miles at 62 minutes, and Tyne yard at Birtley is 11 miles at 20 minutes, would the extra 2 minutes put me out??

Metro Centre to Kingmoor (CA4 postcode) is just over 60 miles but most route planners give a travelling time of over 90 minutes.
The problem you're going to face is someone in HR doing a quick google of the route and seeing you're way over the 60 minute limit - in turn, this makes it easy for them to sift you out.

If you're prepared to relocate be honest about it - do research of the area now, look at costs to rent and buy, register with property searches, if you have children look at schools etc, etc - print out anything useful and take it to the interview as evidence - this will go a long way in helping.

The real issue for you would be the prospect of a two hour commute to work for a twelve hour shift and two hours back - do that for six day and you're going to be a liability by weeks end.

Obviously Tyne Yard will be no trouble for commuting but I'm expecting quite a few applications for those vacancies - already lots of internal interest in them as well as a couple of qualified drivers at other DBS locations looking at relocation.

Thanks, I'm happy to relocate, and come home on days off, before I was a nurse, I was a HGV tramper, away on a Sunday Afternoon and back either Friday night or Saturday morning, so the wife used to not seeing me, I'm happy to rent a bedsit or a flat

If your an external applicant I wouldn't expect great things from this recent driver recruitment, the internal interest for driving roles has been huge and will be for sometime with everyone getting there two lives back.

I am in the talent pool....post was aimed at finding out what stages peeps are at (mainly for Bescot) as I am out the normal recruitment loop e.g. nothing heard yet or they have started to do the assessments etc.

In a previous thread you also said they don't take trainee drivers from external sources. You weren't correct then...is your glass half empty?

Well they don't as a rule they have an agreement with aslef that trainee drivers can not be taken on if there is driver ops already at the depot, the driver ops will progress to mainline and more driver ops will be employed thus never taking on trainee drivers that's how it works at my depot anyway and all depots with driver ops

Thanks for replying mate. Sounds promising, hope its straight through to Interview.

Good luck with your application, which depot have you applied for mate, I've applied for Wembley depot. Any ideas on how the interview might be what sort of things they may ask by any chance as I failed a DMs interview with another TOC last year.

I would wait for a week at least, Royal Mail isn't exactly reliable. I'm one of those awaiting to hear about Tyne Yard. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't it doesn't.
