DB Managers' Train

I saw this today on the 1Z05 Toton TMD - York and the consist was 82146, 3 MK3 coaches and 67029 'Royal Diamond'.

The first carriage had several small windows (paired together), the second looked like a buffet car and the third looked like a normal carriage. Does anyone know why the train ran today and what the first carriage is used for?

The one with the small windows is a sleeper- but converted, with en-suite. Here's more

Not sure, I know WSMR hired it out when they did some proving runs prior to them starting out and it wasn't cheap. It comes with it's own dedicated crew/manager.

I it's still is availible for private hire - certainly was in EWS Days...Just for the right price of course :eek:

Remember seeing this at Rugby and the auditorium coach was showing the view out of 67029s windscreen so the party on board could see where they were going!

This was the day that the now mothballed railfreight terminal at Rugby opened!

Is there any pictures or video available of the interior? I'm pretty sure I've seen some of both the Royal train and NMT before so it'd be nice to compare

Im sure there are some at work of the boardroom carriage. As for the price, I seem to recall it was £25K+ per day when the WSMR runs were done, so probably more now.

Presumably it costs more if you want it staffed and to use the various facilities- I'd guess that on the WSMR proving runs this wasn't needed?

I understand that some of the interior fittings are not up to scratch for public hire, for example the crash worthiness of the plasma screens etc.

WSMR hired it for Training, WSMR did all their training on the EWS company train, didn't come with a manager it just came with an EWS trainer to do the handling and traction.

The runs I know about were done over three days to prove out the running times. One was not completed though due to the massive flooding at Tame Bridge. These weren't training runs and didnt have WSMR drivers.

It was used originally before WSMR started for a timing run but was used for I believe 6 weeks mainly from Wrexham to Wolves for training the WSMR drivers and guards.
