When the DB journey planner changes a bookmarked itinerary to involve use of a taxi, what are the options? My original itinerary was, for 6 December:

Mannheim Hbf 06:29 – 07:08 Stuttgart Hbf
Stuttgart Hbf 08:08 – 09:49 Ansbach
Ansbach 10:11 – 10:32 Steinach (b R.o.d.T)
Steinach 10:36 – 10:51 Rothenburg ob der Tauber

The updated itinerary from Ansbach is
Ansbach 10:13 – 10:27 Dombühl
Dombühl 10:50 – 11:31 Rothenburg (taxi)

I'm using the Deutschlandticket for the journey except for a Super Sparepreis for Mannheim – Ansbach, so I'm guessing it's too much to hope that I wouldn't have to pay extra on top of getting to my destination forty minutes late.

As far as I can tell, there are engineering works that day which might affect Steinach to Würzburg, but nothing which as far as I can tell should have affected my journey. How likely is it that the itinerary would be changed again?

If you look at the ‘runs on’ dates on bahn.de, on weekends in December RE80 seems to be thinned out with some 2 hour gaps. It’s anyones guess as to whether Arverio are short of staff or Bayern is short of money.

It’s bad luck because you chose the IC from Stuttgart. RE90 and both the (Ruf)bus and RE90-RE80 connections are unaffected.

You’ve probably noticed that you could now leave Stuttgart 50 minutes later on the RE and arrive at the same time.
