I just wanted to check something for my own sanity. I’m booked Amsterdam - Düsseldorf - Koblenz HBF - Luxembourg today. My ICE from Amsterdam was late, such that I had to get a train an hour later from Düsseldorf. That was also late, so I had to get the next train from Koblenz, making me two hours late into Luxembourg. Do DB do delay compensation, and do I apply from them, or where I bought my ticket (in this case, NS Railways). I presume it’s just a voucher I’d be given if I’m reading it correctly?

The DB website has some pointers.

For international tickets, you should apparently claim from whoever issued your ticket.
The railway that issued the tickets is always responsible for processing compensation claims for tickets not issued by DB.
You’ll be entitled to 50% of the price paid for a two hour delay on your international ticket.

You can claim from NS here.

DB do delay compensation, but it's at a lower rate than here.
I was on a Vienna-Rotterdam ICE ticket in 2019 when there was a power supply problem soon after leaving Vienna (infrastructure, not the train).
There was a 3-hour delay, and once we got moving again the conductor came round with pre-stamped claim forms for "over 2 hours delay" which is the maximum.
I got a 50% refund (bank transfer) on the through ticket price, even though most of the trip was on time the next day after a stopover in Regensburg.
The stranded train also reversed a short distance to a local station platform, and passengers were allowed off to stretch their legs/smoke.
No complaints at all about how the delay was handled.

Thank you both. I don’t have a stamped form from the DB train, but I’m hoping NS process it as it should show on their system as I missed the train by a good ten minutes. The only issue is the fact that the alternate train I got from Düsseldorf to Koblenz was a Eurocity which doesn’t track on their app (maybe because it wasn’t an ICE??), so I’m hoping they have alternate ways to verify that was late too.

You must claim by whom you bought the ticket-which you do not clearly state. NOt by who caused the delay. You are entitled to 50% refund of total ticket price and both NS-INtern and DB will -after often a considerable long time- refund this in any IBAN-which I have learnt you did not loose that system after Brexit. At least by DB you can also ask for vouchers, but I see no point in doing that, as it will be same amount, but perhaps your GB bank charges you for payments in non-GBP.
(if further such trips are intended: with at least 7 days before one can also book via nmbs=b-europe and NS-INternat. singles from any NL to any BE station-incl for the free trip into LUX itself, valid only via the BeNeLux yellow hourly train, not Thalys. Not valid <9.00 on mo-fr.

It was through the NS International app. Now that my journey is completed, I’ll apply as it has a delay compensation button within the app.

EDIT: Turns out I can’t use the delay form as we’re no longer in the EU; I instead have to submit a complaint form.

Be prepared for a lengthy wait for your repay: NS International has a backlog of months for claim processing due to staff shortage.

I had a similar train ticket and delay, bought from DB, and they paid within a week and also sent a confirmation snail mail from Germany.

If I need to fill in a contact form I think I’ll fill it in when I get back to my hostel. And as we speak I’m stuck because of a complete signal failure in the Brussels Airport area - seems lightning can strike twice :D

Update: my return journey has (sort of) had a response. They’ve apologised for the delay in the response, and decided to compensate me 50% as a way of apology to expedite the claim.

They’ve said they’ll transfer €34.50 to my bank within four weeks of the first week of May. I’m not sure how the Dutch banking system works, but I hope that with my sort code and account number they can do it.

You might need your IBAN or whatever it's called, not just the UK 6-digit one.
