DB changed train time to earlier

Hello,
First time travel on DB coming up.
Somewhat surprised to receive an email from DB today informing me that my 13:02 departure from Munich to Stuttgart on 15th August has been changed to a 12:28 departure.
(I bought the First Class advance ticket back in February).
I'm not entirely happy because I'm only spending one night in Munich and don't have a lot of time the day before so this rules out a look around the city centre pretty much totally now.
I would have been happy to take the next departure at 13:28 instead, I'm due to fly back to London from Stuttgart in the evening instead of Munich for cost reasons and the chance to sample a meal and beer on the train!
Please see the screenshot, there is a "search for alternatives' option via "More Actions".
Am I able to change without penalty? (I don't want to play around and make a mess of things).
Both the trains are over 15 mins slower the original service.
I tried to see what type of train the 12:28 would be but confusingly could only see that the service "starts on the 16th August" even though I'm traveling on the 15th!

Congratulations with your flexible ticket. You are not required to show up earlier. Instead, you can now take any train that fits you. You don't need to do anything with your ticket; it remains valis as is.
If you have a reservation and want a new one, you can change it free of charge at a DB ticket office or by phone. Alternatively, you can book a new one and request reimbursement of the old one.
So you can indeed take the 13:28 train if you want. If you're at least 60 minutes delayed compared with your original booking, then you can claim compensation for delay; you can ask a reimbursement of any seat reservation in the same claim.

Just to be clear, in order to use the ticket on a later train I can simply board, or do I have to select the new train online in advance?
(I would rather see how things are on the day before deciding).

Yes, the Zugbindung on the whole connection has been officially lifted with that, your ticket is valid on any train of the day without any further fuss.
