This simply isn't true.

No lives are lost if the assessment is passed. Many people pass the assessment but don't achieve the 'enhanced' level set by a TOC/FOC who puts them through it, that is NOT a fail, nor is it a life lost.

You are correct, I misspoke. What I meant to say is that if you retake and fail to pass the national standard when trying to achieve the enhanced, even if you previously passed it to the national level, you lose what you had and you lose a life. What I'm trying to explain, and failing miserably is that, once you have a passing mark I found that it's not worth the risk of losing what you have.

How did you contact them? I've emailed to no avail. I passed early this year and was never told to what standard I passed.

When I’ve contacted the opc they will only tell you if you’ve passed to the Enhanced standard for the TOC if you’ve sat the assessment with the OPC, and request the feedback within a few months of the assessments They confirmed that had passed national standard. The OPC won’t discuss your results if older than a few months old and not if sat with another assessment company. So if it’s a historic assessment several years ago you won’t get feedback

I applied in June 2022
OPC tests Jan 2023
DMI April 2023 where I entered into the talent pool.

I should have been in by now. I chased and they said there has been a downturn of work and I would be waiting longer than anticipated. I chased again after Christmas and still waiting for a reply.

I'd be surprised if any applications are take any further, redundancies announced only 2 months ago in November.

I had my DMI in November 22 then a medical in December 23. I was expecting a start date then everything went radio silent. It took me about 4 months to even get a response. The Hr girl I was dealing with left the business and when I finally got a response I was told that recruitment was on hold and they'd be in touch however due to time elapsed I'd need a medical again. Since the redundancy announcements I've basically washed my hands of them also seeing some of the comments on here of them leaving people unemployed cancelling courses 3 days before they were due to start I don't feel like I could trust any start date they gave me. It's really sad as you put everything into getting these positions and to be let down in such a way without any communication is just poor form.

They’re inundated with people asking, so don’t be disheartened if you don’t get a reply, but I fully understand your frustrations I was exactly the same. Checking the emails almost took over my life.

There’s a rumour of a massive recruitment drive this year. I wouldn’t read to much into the redundancies if I was you. They were for volunteers only, and imho it was just to get some of the old RPS boys out the door. My depot ran on overtime before the redundancies you can imagine what it’s like now.

This was very unfortunate and I’m a bit embarrassed that the company I work for did this. Those poor soles that handed their notice in and then was jobless through no fault of their own. Fully understand people not wanting to take applications any further. But my opinion is those people will be the first to be offered positions when recruitment kicks off again (if they take it). You have to do what’s best for you. If that’s not taking a job that’s offered and waiting for another FOC/TOC that’s the individuals choice.

DB isn't the only company to cancel a course recently, they still have a lot of older drivers in the company that will be coming to a finish in the next 5 years, i know some of the talent pools for some depots are empty, things can change quickly, all you can do is apply for everything and just be patient, the call will come, i was in various talent pools for over 3 years before getting the nod.

Freightliner have started employing again recently I noticed.

GWR don't need 7days to take a week off - you only need 4days for a block week as there's 2fixed RDs. So they only total 20days for the 5 block weeks but that's all you need.

4AL days give you a feel week off, so although the totals may be less, it equates to the same, if not more, weeks off

We work to a 13 week link, week 1 being annual leave week followed by a week of rest days, therefore 8 full weeks off per contract year. Difficult to compare as we are on annualised hours but I can assure you DB cargo is a 30.66 hour week. Have a look on the aslef company information page. Details are on there

The south wales advert has been changed to the original plans for junior driver recruitment only at Port Talbot.
