Hi all,

putting this in here as I don’t want to start a new thread.

what’s the crack with holidays when training?

I’m looking to go away in the next few months for my fathers 60th, but I am also waiting on a start date. I have passed all interviews, assessments, and medical. I don’t want to presume it’s coming in the next few months, I don’t want to pester HR.

thanks in advance for your help.

Most employers I've been with don't want you taking leave during an initial training course, you might get a day for an urgent domestic issue, illness or a funeral etc but very unlikely they would allow a family holiday.

I've also been asked twice in an interview if I have any holidays coming up !

I thought this and I’m happy to not go away. But don’t want to put my life on hold if it takes another 6 months to get a start date.

Can’t take any holidays during training, lad on my course had hospital one day which meant we could only do revision one day so he didn’t fall behind then we had to play catch up for rest of the week on what we should of been on.

Do the other North West hub depots all have JD’s do you know?
Tyne doesn’t I don’t think.
Doncaster possibly does.
Can’t remember all the yards that have them tbh. Jds can sign multiplier yards depending on their location too and what falls in their hub.

Not sure if I'm honest, I think so as there's multiple locations in the North West.

Tyne is classed as North East and Doncaster is part of South Yorkshire hub.

South Yorkshire hub has Junior drivers, driving at Tinsley Yard, Rotherham Steel Terminal, Doncaster Woodyard, Up Decoy and Belmont Up & Down yards.

Had a blonde moment! I did know that, I’m at a small hub which doesn’t have many places to book on, well I was, my last shift today .

What about the North West ones you mentioned in Cheshire, Carlisle etc, do you know which have JD’s?

I'm not sure if I'm honest, I'd assume so, but it depends on their yard set up etc

Carlisle has juniors, Warrington/arply does not I don’t think.

Are you through to the talent pool for Warrington?
Seaforth, carlisle, possibly mossend with the postal, also daventry probably, bescot and toton, obviously crewe basford hall. I know that they have a job into hardendale quarry at the top of shap too.

Congratulations, I take it you weren’t there today if you found out you’d passed today? How was it? Doncaster I presume? Where you in for? Are you invited to DMI?

It seemed like quite early in the day to have done all the tests, found out you’d passed and then popped on here post up. Hence why I thought it was from a previous visit.
Depends how many are in really , I was out at 16.00 but wasn’t taken straight for my interview, I had to wait around a hour for my interview at end of it all.

I had it this morning around 9ish and was away by about half 1 as I was the only one there the other didn’t show so managed to get through it quick, the assessor just said he’d update the spreadsheet and hr will be able to see I’ve passed but didn’t give any time scale, yes Doncaster, I applied for East Midlands hub in may this year, it did say on email that potentially a dmi could follow after the tests but sadly wasn’t the case for me today, guess it’s back to being patient

Said the same to me about a possibly a dmi after too, but knew it wouldn’t happen, had interview 2 months after the test. Hopefully you won’t be waiting too long.

Congrats again. Cant believe there was only you there, how was that, better or worse? I presumed the email meant you may be in an interview if you pass the tests therefore being the MMI interview. Never heard anyone doing the full suite of tests and then a DMI too all on one day, that would be intense.

Does anyone know roughly how long you can/will be in the talent pool (northwest)?
I think it said on the advert you can be in the talent pool up to or over 12 months.

I did my assessments in May and had the DMI on the same day. There was 3 people doing the assessments on the same day as me. I was the only one tjat got through to DMI

Wow, so paper tests, computer tests, MMI then DMI back to back? Well done! That’s crazy but great to get done in a oner!
