Actually, the character who started all the trouble did the honourable thing - cleared off to Crossrail. Of those he left in the lurch, plenty have left and are dispersed amongst a myriad of companies. Some are personnal friends.

Have these guys had to battle (like the IM guys have had to) to maintain their conditions?
No, most of the managers that started it are still there (bar one who Ive heard has gone to GBRF via a short stay at FLHH)
I was on about their union rep.
I know , it wasn't the union that started the trouble

They did plenty of damage, particularly with the guys wearing the same uniform as themselves. I was referring to that good guy who talked them into industrial action then cleared off to Crossrail leaving them mired in a pile of the proverbial steaming.

I can't believe you'd even suggest that Aslef would ever do anything completely against the best interests of the members who fund them. Shocking claims!... 
Is that the guys in the same uniform that filled their boots doing IM work whilst the IM guys were taking industrial action ?
So the freight drivers are non union and have to do as they are told, even if that means strike breaking?
Why is that then?
Is that a serious question? You actually expect non union members to walk out without any kind of ramifications?
No ,im wondering why they are all non union when the rest of the railway are.
I.E. why they are in that position?
I mean could it happen on GB, DBC, FL , DRS or a passenger TOC

Some of us were ASLEF members for 20+ years (myself included). We left when the union decided to represent their own ideas as opposed to what the members ideas reflected. I didnt need a 'union' like that, some people are so dogmatic of course they still think they work for BR - hence why most of them no longer work in the industry.
But the vast majority of drivers in the industry are in Aslef.
They may not be perfect but surely the pros outweigh the cons ?
By not being in Aslef, you have no representation, no voice, are vulnerable to the whim of employers.
The non-union drivers and companies are aiding the casualisation of our industry

If you're saying all of what he said there is nonsense then you could really do with explaining your position more thoroughly. Other than perhaps the last line, all of what he said seems to be common sense and I don't know one Driver who wouldn't share that sentiment. Freight drivers (or the Driving grade as a whole?) collectively deciding to abandon ASLEF, particularly to go unrepresented by any union, would seem like an act of madness from a passenger side perspective.
I refer you to #75. It states why MANY drivers binned ASLEF - namely because they failed to represent the members, particularly on the freight side. Ask a lot of current and ex DB, Colas or Freightliner drivers what they think of ASLEF and I doubt its printable.
A prime example would be the proposed Intermodal industrial action of 2008. ASLEF didnt like the 2.5% offerred by management so balloted for strike which then got called off. The drivers walked away with 1.5%. You say not being in a union is madness? Then of course we had the famed EWS 'DRI 2'. ASLEF did us drivers proud by reccomending that. Im only surprised the union leadership werent all strung up from the nearest lamp-posts.
Most people I know are only in the union purely for the "insurance" value should something go wrong. Most have choice words to say about Aslef, their closed door operations and complete lack of communications and engagement with members.....very little, if anything, are put to members to vote on...at least on a blue freight company.

That's my way of thinking currently in the unite union say no more but when I leave I was going to join Aslef.

Based at Glasgow central and yeah i applied for the mossend job.
Not so long ago rumour had it Colas we’re going to buy DB, now the rumour is Colas are pulling out of freight alltogether. Freightliner buying DB? Really can’t see it, just another messroom bull****ter.
