Why do they require a driving license? I haven't seen that on any other train driving job adverts

Because some of you turns probably will require you to drive a company vehicle either to or from a location

Just had an email saying it’s because I live over an hour away but the original advert listed Manchester. So I have no idea!

There were more on the original advert, Manchester was included. I found it strange as when I applied half of them vanished and I thought I'd made a mistake but I went back to the original advert and grabbed a screen shot and they were still listed. Couldn't quite figure out which was correct, I'm assuming on applications you've applied for it only displays a certain amount of locations whereas the full advert has the full list.

ah right...looks like they have listed every location in chronological order. Now it lists all up to Port Talbot.

Some on here will know specifics but it's £30k if depot/junior driver then somewhere between £50k-£55k when qualified and on mainline work.

I applied for the fast track Trainee/Junior train driver.

You’re on about 30k as a trainee. Then when you are qualified it depends whether you become a junior driver or go straight to mainline. If you’re a junior, I believe you are on the same as training until you are bumped to mainline. It does depend on depot. Some depots have junior drivers while some just go straight to mainline. When you go mainline, you get your £55k when you sign your first route. Hope that makes sense?

You move into a mainline position when a vacancy arises, there may already be established junior drivers at the depot who will go before you based on seniority. Then you’ve got extra hours to complete and a few other bits before getting the rate of pay.

I had my interview on the 20th of December 2022. Still haven't heard back. I emailed the regional manager on the 11th of January 2023 but had no reply yet.

Does anyone know what the average waiting time is once in the talent pool? Realise there will be variation from depot to depot.

It could vary between being in the pool for 1 day or so long that you are dropping out of the pool years later with no job offered.. It depends on factors out of the applicants control, you may hear from them with updates, you may not.. There may be others above you, there may be contracts at your chosen depot that are gained and require more new starters, or contracts lost and no starters now needed???? It’s a ‘how long is a piece of string’ situation. All you can do is hold out, not bother them too much but send the occasional email requesting an update and see what you hear back.
