The Class 120s were withdrawn last year is it due to replacement by ICE-4 and IC2?
And anyone have ideas when will the 111/112/114/143s be withdrawn and what will replace the 111/112/114/143s?
The 114s 112s used between Hamburg and Lübeck will be replaced in the next few years with Stadler Kiss units. Not sure about the others.

OK btw I wondered if the Class 120s were withdrawn last year is it due to replacement by ICE-4 and IC2?
The 120s were withdrawn from Intercity use in July 2020 after replacement on the Stuttgart - Munich route by 101s, which were displaced by the introduction ICE 4 and IC2 sets. The DB Regio examples used on the Hamburg - Rostock route were withdrawn in Decemeber 2020, though I'm not sure what replaced them. A small number of 120s remain in freight use.

It's 112s on Hamburg Luebeck route and seems most already replaced by 146s.

but the 101s will also be withdrawn once 102s, ICE-4s and ICE-L Displace them, I am not sure if DB Historic department will keep one example or two as Exhibits or some companies may want them......

If the 103s and 120s are anything to go by quite likely both. There are 103s and 120s both in the DB Museum in Koblenz and in private use.

It's going to be interesting to see exactly what happens with them. I've no doubt that at least two or three will end up in preservation, but I'm not entirely convinced that private operators will be willing to chance it with such a highly-specialised and technologically-complex locomotive unless they really want the high top speed, and/or they get a really good price.

I had thought the same about the 120s but a few of them have ended up in private freight use. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Private operators wanting high top speed already have the choice of leasing ES64U2s from MRCE (with possibility to buy, too) or Vectrons from any number of lessors. Given the much bigger number of ES64U2s built than 101s, getting support for them from Siemens is going to be easier than going to Alstom for support for an ever decreasing number of 101s.

But wiki said the following statement of IC2, Anyone have ideas if the statement is trustworthy enough? PS Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercity_2
Unlike most previous IC stock the new trains, marketed as "InterCity 2" by DB have a top speed of 160 km/h and are mainly intended for routes where higher speeds aren't possible or would offer little or no benefit with the ICE 4 to take over routes with maximum speeds between 160 km/h and 250 km/h. The IC2 is also intended to expand the Intercity network to cities that had lost their long-distance service upon withdrawal of the Interregio.

What’s happened is the IC2 or ICE4 (not sure which in this case) has gone onto a route previously 101 worked, but the 101s have been temporarily shifted to the Stuttgart - Munich route to allow the 120s to be withdrawn first. The 101s will eventually be removed from that route too.

Very true, and of course the 101 doesn't have the cross-border approval that the Taurus and Vectron models do.

The 120s "last stand" of diagrams in any numbers was directly replaced by IC2 on the Nuremburg-Stuttgart-Karlsruhe axis. They've only had the odd turn to/from Munich for maintenance in the last year,s most other work being on dated and standby turns with other ICs not really concentrated. Its a misnomer to suggest they were solid on Stuttgart-Munich and replaced by cascaded 101s, most hauled trains on that route have been 101s for donkeys.

That was the information I had. I knew about a small amount of work to Karlsruhe but had heard no mention of Nuremberg. Also had no idea it was a direct replacement by IC2s.

Good point. Just Germany, Austria and to Basel SBB approved for the 101s. They also don’t have ETCS, which will increasingly restrict their use, which the Taurus and Vectron do have.

PS IC2 include the ex Westbahn KISS, however I wondered if the 4010s from Westbahn will go to DB Fernverkehr and when will the KISS 3 and the CRRC EMU in Westbahn Start service so the 4010s can move.

According to wikipedia, some DB 101s are scrapped to give way to IC2, ICE-4 and in the future ECx which will replace the IC1 sets, so I wondered if the METs will be withdrawn too? If the 101s withdrawn, which type of loco will be the traction of Nightjets in Germany?
The METs are for the chop at the end of the year: https://www.deutschebahn.com/de/konzern/Aktuelles/Der-Exot-des-Fernverkehrs-geht-in-Rente-6347308
EDIT: Whoops, I see that someone else had already pointed this out - sorry.

Anyone know which service the last MET set is being used on (train number would help), or do they get used on different services?
Must admit not seen one for years, think last time I went on one was 2011; what do they work now?

According to fernbahn.de, the METs are working ICE1051/1052 (Köln-Berlin Ostbf and back) and ICE1191/1196 (Berlin Ostbf-Frankfurt(Main)Flughafen and back)

Probably as there were still lots of loco hauled secondary trains and routes then. But now more and more stuff is EMU or push pull so there may be no secondary role for the 101s
Also, the 101s are approaching the age when 103 withdrawals began, having been much more intensively used. Reunification and the comparative failure of the 120s also helped the 103s to a longer life than one might have expected.

It's worth bearing in mind that ICE1051/1052 only run on Fridays and Sundays.

I enjoyed a Düsseldorf - Berlin run on one of the sets back in 2018, will be sorry to see them go.

My last Nightjet from Switzerland to Germany (going nowhere near Austria) was already hauled by an OBB Taurus (except for the first part which was an RE460) - they do seem to be able to manage without DB help.
But wiki said the following statement of IC2, Anyone have ideas if the statement is trustworthy enough? PS Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intercity_2
That page is a bit out of date, and arguably misleading. IC2 now refers to both to the Bombardier trains for 160km/h (are DB still refusing deliveries?) and the Stadlers for 200km/h.

On a separate note, DB will soon be geting their Talgo's with matching locos, all rated for 230km/h. Clearly the 101s weren't deemed good enough for that usecase (the 101s used to be 220km/h capable apparently, mostly downgraded to 200km/h except for the MET units though).

But are the ÖBB Vectrons Authorized for Passenger services?

Given that the Talgo sets are planned for use on the Berlin-Amsterdam service, the 101s would be useless once they got to the Dutch border.

They've been tested on ÖBB double deck and single deck "City shuttle" stock, so even if not fully approved it's not going to be much of a job to get the paperwork done. There's plenty of Vectrons around Europe used on passenger work.
