I'm planning on making a trip to Glasgow on the 7th June, aiming to be there around 1pm, come back around 7pm, I can see advances via Carlisle, which would get me there, but coming back I'd have to go via Newcastle. Anyone any idea of of good value tickets for that route?

I can see advances for £17 that'd get me back earlier, the only other option I see is getting an SOR VIA APPLEBY and excessing it on the return to the SVR ANY PERMITTED.

Thoughts appreciated!

On RSH, you can get a £17 Advance at 1840 to Leeds (arr 0011) changing at Preston, Manc Vic and Stalybridge by selecting the timetables only option and then asking for trains that call at Blackrod.

Or if you ask for trains calling at Bradford, you get Advances at £17 at 1800 arr Leeds 2253 (change at Preston) and 1840 (change Preston and Manc Vic arrives Leeds 0027).

If you do use the Anytime Return on the outward journey, don't forget to approach the train manager for a complementary 1st class upgrade, if you take a Virgin Trains service!

That looks useful! I can't see any confirmation on the VT website though... ah well, NRE is the definitive source!

Hmm, but that's 6 hours, granted a fair bit of new track, but still over 2 hours more than other routes! 1800 idea is feasible though.

I did that last year in both directions on a Keighley to Glasgow ticket - both guards were friendly and confirmed that it was fine with the first mentioning that if I wanted a complementary hot drink to just show my ticket at the buffet.
